Good Lord. People need to go to driving school every year to renew their license. If they fail, they don't drive. That will fix part of the problem.

No, it won't fix the problem. The problem start with the DMV. I once witnessed an elderly person who couldn't read ANY part of the eyechart, so the person behind the counter read it for him and gave him his license. This happened in Ferguson, MO

Hey Weatherman,

I was sitting there in that traffic, heading northbound. My brother and his family were as well, but were about 60 yards from the store/station where the accident occurred. I have additional video and will upload as soon as I can locate my video cord.

That area seems to be a very hazardous one due to the gas station and passing zone. I've witnessed more than one accident along that stretch and I always try to slow down and pay attention. But even on the way down to Piedmont last week a man decided he was going to turn last minute and I had to slam on my brakes.

What a coincidence and your very right LadyCardfan, that is a dangerous portion of 67. Alot of HWY 67 is dangerous when you get past Fredericktown and it goes to the two lane. Although things will hopefully be safer when the four lane gets finished around 2012.

There were 3 helicopters called to that scene. A little girl was flown to Farmington where she was pronounced. Another patient was flown to Cape while the 3rd was flown to a St Louis Hospital.

Wow that is very depressing, such a young girl was taken from the world on Easter Sunday. I shall be praying for the family and everyone that knows them.
My dad takes that road to Popular Bluff every few days to get to work. I had no clue that, that road was that dangerous, not saying just because of one crash, but from the pics and video I can tell its very dangerous because there is really no room at all to avoid an on coming car.

P.S. weatherman,
Keep up the good work my friend, maybe one day fox 2 will hire you to be a reporter or something like that if not a meteorologist. Btw weatherman, I was in Farmington this weekend with my dad and his girlfriend.

Correction, I guess this was on Saturday. At any rate it is still very depressing.

Two of my sisters where killed in a headon crash in 1997. The woman who hit them did not spend one min. in jail. People will never care about others as long as they are not held accountable. There is no such thing as a accident . If you drive you need to be held accountable for your action.

I agree olives, I still don't have my license because I don't feel that I am ready to take on the responsibility of my life let alone others when I am behind the wheel. Most, if not all accidents, are avoidable if people would pay attention to what they are doing and not changing the cd/radio, talking on a cell phone, being sure they are fit to drive, and so on. There are people who even read a newspaper while they are driving and those who are doing things which causes you to lose your attention even for a second should be punished. Problem is, there is really no way to prove it in court, unless if the person at fault admits they were doing something they shouldn't have been doing in the first place. And Olives I am sorry for your loss, I know how you feel because I lost my grandma when she fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a tree. That is part of the reason why I don't feel comfortable getting my license yet.

Thanks lightningstorm! Sorry to hear about your Grandma, and your sisters as well olives. I also completely agree with both of you that when you get behind the wheel it is your responsibility to watch out for the other driver and yourself. It is so easy to get distracted behind the wheel these days with all the things people have, and it's very upsetting when that cost's a life.

BTW, How did you like Farmington? That place is growing really fast. Fredericktown used to be bigger but when all the lead and cobalt mines shut down and somewhat bad city leadership occurred we ended up smaller. Also if you don't mind me asking lightningstorm, how goes your relationship issue?

Also a big thanks to FOX 2 for featuring me once again this week. I just wish something a little more happier could of occured. Also apologize for the jerky video, I didn't have a coat and it was cold out on the highway.

It's okay, didnt really get into the town except for the bowling alley. They live on the outskirts of the city and their land got bought out to make a mall of some sort. I'll show you where they live if you want me too.

I'll post the relationship thing on a blog because there is no way it will fit on here. Message me when you have read it so I can delete it.

BTW weatherman, Farmington is about 10,000 residents smaller than O'Fallon, IL, so it seems pretty small to me from living here all my life lol.

On behalf of the family and friends thank you all for your prayers. The pain of it all seems so unreal, we are all numb. In time we will learn to adjust with our grieving and loss. Just knowing that so many of you are keeping us in your prayers helps more than you know.

You're very welcome as well, and I shall continue to pray for your family and friends that have been affected by this.

Thank you Weatherman for the nice comment, it was a nice way to wake up this morning. Hope you have a good week as well and hopefully we get some interesting weather in the next few days because honestly I am bored in the weather world lol.

wonder if those involved had experience driving on 2-lane roads, with no passing zones and such -- a lot of people from urban areas are used to 4 lanes almost everywhere they go and don't know a no-passing zone from a gopher.

by the way I added you to my favorites -- and registered for e-mail updates -- am a '62 grad of FHS, published the only school newspaper at that time for quite some time -- graduated with the sister of the hdwe store owner on S Main. -- love the ice cream stop there.

My name is Kevin and I live in a small town about 80 miles south of St. Louis. I attended Fredericktown High School and graduated in 2008. I currently am a sales associate at our Wal-Mart Supercenter. Also I'm a firefighter (Unit 812) and the photographer for the Fredericktown Fire Department. After high school I will be attending Mineral Area College and majoring in the allied health program. I have loved weather since I was a little kid and always looked at meteorology as a career but my struggles in math and a small job market for meteorologists it will just be a hobby for me. I'm also a volunteer storm spotter for the NWS in Stl. Other hobbies I enjoy are photography(still and video) listening to my scanner and watching FOX 2 of course!
