My husband and I just went down today (3-20-08) around 11:30 am, and took these photos at Meramec State Park in Sullivan of the flooding there. This is about 3 miles from our home. Thankfully, we're safe from the flood water.
There is normally about a 50 foot drop from the bridge to the water.

The roof of a pavillion is all that's showing above the flood water at Meramec State Park.

I tried to get a photo to show how fast the current is moving.

Here we go again. Spring-like weather this weekend and now back to winter. Rain all day and falling temps lead to sleet this afternoon that covered my deck. Then around 2:30 pm, it changed to a moderately heavy falling snow that continued for about 3 hours. At 5:30 pm it's 24 degrees and now it's tapered to flurries; but, Dave assures us we have another 24 hours and more waves coming, with 6-8 inches expected and some areas up to 10 inches where they get thunder-snow. I remember thunder-snow from the '82 blizzard. I'll pass on that thank you and just be thankful and happy with 6-8 inches and then a rapid transition into spring if you please. :)
I'm glad we got winter weather. I truly love all the seasons we have in Missouri. But I'm ready to be done with this one and move on to the next. Anyone else ready for spring?
I'll post pictures tomorrow when there's some picture-worthy weather outside my window. ;)

Well, I predicted in another thread, 6 inches for Sullivan; I was wrong. We only got 5.5 inches. I was close! So Fox 2 Weather Crew, your jobs are safe. LOL
I used
Chris' official snow measuring guidelines to measure.
Here's some snow photos I took from my home in Sullivan this morning.

Well, not quite the ice storm from last year this time, but ice none-the-less. This time, it's mostly on trees and elevated surfaces. With temps holding right now at 31 degrees, the roads are surprisingly still mainly wet. Our trip to church and back was uneventful, but when my hubby went to the store later this afternoon, he did some sliding. This evening should prove to be interesting if one is out and about in Sullivan.
How's the weather where you are?

Today is not only Valentine's Day, it's also my wedding anniversary - so we fondly call it our Vale-versary. :) My husband works at the DaimlerChrysler North plant, so we're awaiting word on whether or not he's going to lose his job (happy Vale-versary honey). So thankfully we celebrated last Saturday, in case we're not in a celebrating mood later today. Anyone else married on Valentine's Day?! What are your special plans today?

Well, with most of us here in the St Louis area under heavy ice and not likely going anywhere today; if you've stocked up on the traditional milk, bread and eggs - guess that can mean only one thing: FRENCH TOAST PARTY!! :D
What is everyone else doing today to while away the hours during this storm?
I've got sick children here, so we'll be lounging around watching movies and not doing much of anything. I'm sure I could find some laundry to do (am I the only house with "rabbit laundry" that multiplies overnight?!).
So what are YOU doing today?

Do you make them? If so, do you keep them and are you still on track?

Do you have the traditional turkey, dressing and fixings; or do you opt for something less traditional?

Inquiring minds (that would be me! :-) want to know what you think...
* Should Christians go trick-or-treating?
* Should they part-take of alternative celebrations like Harvest Festivals?
* Should they use this night as an opportunity to hand out Christian tracks/info?
* Should they stay home and do nothing?
* If you're a Christian - what does your family do on Halloween night?
* If you're not a Christian - what do you think of Christians who celebrate Halloween?
Let's discuss it.
