Prayer for Christmas Day

Help. My grandmother asked me to read the prayer before we open gifts and eat lunch on Christmas Day. I've been scouring the Internet for something that relates to both Jesus' birth and modern day challenges. You know... something to do with how we can relate our lives today to his birth and life on Earth. I can't find anything that's a good blend of the two.

Has anyone come across anything that might help me out?

“Heavenly Father, Thank you for sending Your Son Jesus to earth. We not only celebrate His birth in the manger, but also the reason for His coming -- His death on the cross. We thank You for providing eternal life for each person who will accept His free gift of salvation.

“Father, I thank you for my family. Life is not always easy for us, but we know that You are always with us. As Your Word says, You will never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you for the love that holds us together and for always meeting our needs. Draw us closer together through this coming year. We love You and want our time of celebration to be memorable today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Here's what I've come up with. I thought I'd share.

A CHRISTMAS VERSION – 1 CORINTHIANS 13

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love, I’m just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love, I’m just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn’t envy another’s home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way.

Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can’t.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
Love never fails.

Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of love will endure.

Lord Jesus, help us to remember this year what Christmas is truly about. Help us fill our lives with love all year long. Help us live as

Ooops... here's the last part. I came up with this part on my own :)

Lord Jesus, help us to remember this year what Christmas is truly about. Help us fill our lives with love all year long. Help us live as you did here on Earth. Thank you for loving us despite our imperfectness. And most of all, thank you for blessing our family. Amen.
