So, why should we promote, preserve, educate and enjoy Route 66?

Well let's see, it was the first major highway to connect 8 states going from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA. It is the Mother Road with lots of neat places to visit. Have you seen the 3 Muffler Men? They are in Illinois, one in Wilmington, IL at the Launching Pad Diner now dressed as an astronaut. Another is in Atlanta, IL done over as Paul Bunyan. The third is in Springfield, IL at a tire place on Wabash St. How about some turkey tracks in the road? You can find those north of Carlinville IL on Donaldson Road. They are real turkey tracks made just after the concrete was poured in the 1920's. What about Hooker's Cut or the Devil's Elbow in Missouri? Beautiful scenery. These are just a few places that can be seen while rediscovering Route 66. If we don't promote these things, what happens to them? Businesses go out of business because people aren't stopping to see what they have to offer. Sights get run down because no one is taking care of them. This is our history. Even if you don't live on the old Route, it is a part of our history. What can you do to help? Join an Association. Each one of the States that Route 66 runs through has an Association to help preserve it. Help out with work days set up to help out someone that needs it. Get out there and explore it. See all that it has to offer.
