I don't ask for much in life, but peace and quiet are toward the top of the list.

When was the last time you sat in your yard without hearing non-natural sounds?  Airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles, super-loud cars, lawn mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers (I really hate those), extremely loud car stereos, and--UGH---the ice cream trucks....I'm sure I could go on....but these things are constant in our lives.

Some of you who live WAAAAY out in the country may not have to deal with many of these things, but most of us do.

Sit in your yard for a while and listen to the noise pollution surrounding you.  Try identifying each sound.    Then try to block it out.  Good luck.

Well J; I was in the yard all day; and I mowed and weed eated (?) lol; and so did the entire neighborhood; but to tell you the truth; I didn't notice the sounds; it was soooooooooooooo nice outside and I was soooooo enjoying the sun...that I just didn't notice....Then Ron came home and started the tiller; and I fell asleep in the hammock; listening to the birds; over the sound of the tiller. :)

You have to go deep within yourself in order to really block out the sounds around you. Who has time for that? I can tell you what I'm hearing right now. That is if I can capture them all...for starters, there's the humming of my computer, then there's the clicking of the keyboards as I stroke the keys, somebody just hit a home run at the park accross the street. I hear lots of cheering. I hear the thumping of beats and the hum of a car. Now a motorcycle. Nope, no way I can tune all of that out! Good Luck Jay!

Suz it ain't all that quiet out here for sure but I can block most of it out also, Except when I am trying to go to sleep' The train whistle's,The helicopter's ,Nabor's racing up and down the road or working on their car's at midnite reving them up.There is all kind's of noise here but usually I am listening to the bird's and not paying any attention to the rest.Except when I am trying to sleep. It will really be nosie made at the Smith place this week end .Pay back LOL. They party at the river and the music is so loud you can't really hear what it is you just feel it in the rock the house sit's on.But I tune alot of it out.You will see this week end sleeping out side lol.

right now I hear birds singing and chirping and kids playing and laughing and adults talking....I do block out the unnatural sounds without even realizing or trying....and I am glad. It was a beautiful day today.....

Grew up sleeping in the screened-in porch summers since had no air-conditioning. Only heard tree frogs, owls and crickets. Then, new HWY 30 was built 1/4 mile away...No natural sounds heard since from there or anyplace else where lived...kinda miss the "country".

The simple fact that there is a constant din in the background makes it hard to unwind. And yet we as a society and a race have a way of finding new ways to make noise. It truely is amazing to me that we don't have more blood pressure issues or that there are not more crazed people on this planet (in this country)
I for one used to be very well centered and now am so far out of kilter that a case of V8 won't help. Hey The US government has used noise to oust political leaders and wear down disidents so if They are using it for that purpose I wonder what effect ordinary life has on us? Clinicly I'm ok. Clinicly I'm ok. Hmmmmmmm I think I should lay down.

I feel that these neverending noises are stressing us out without most of us even realizing it. I KNOW they stress me out, because I am accutely aware of them. But to those of you who are able to "block them out", are you really blocking them out as much as you think?

I can't sleep at night unless there's noise. After sleeping in a sleeper of a semi for 2 yrs I just have to have noise.
