is building St. Clare Health Center, which will replace St.
Joseph's in Kirkwood

Mike Swoboda, the former mayor of Kirkwood who was shot and badly injured during a rampage at City Hall in February, has died. Swoboda died Saturday morning of complications connected to the shooting. He would have turned 70 this month. Swoboda was shot twice in the head. He was hospitalized for weeks but appeared to be recovering before suffering setbacks in recent months. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Swoboda family and the city of Kirkwood.

A proposal to ban cell phone use while driving in Town and Country is expected to be read at the board of alderman’s meeting Monday night. If it passes, Town and Country will be the first city in Missouri to outlaw cell phones while driving. Part of the reason for the ordinance here in Town and Country is the recent deadly crash where a tractor trailer smashed into numerous cars. The driver is believed to have been on his cell phone.

School districts are having a tough time with funding the three R's: reading, writing, and arithmetic. In some cases, when the budget is tight, music education is the first to go. Most people in the St. Louis area don't own shares or work for
the brewery, but some still tried to have their voices heard with grassroots
efforts like rallies and petitions.
While
many white collar jobs at Anheuser-Busch are in jeopardy, many blue collar jobs
will be safe as long as their beers keep selling. While many are willing to
keep drinking Bud, they certainly aren't as hesitant to change as they used to
be before the sale.
