Have you ever noticed that Ameren is the only utility that has ongoing Public Relations campaigns? Even before the 2006 thunderstorms that knock out power for some up to eight weeks Ameren was running PSA’s about “Who would go out on a night like this?” Now they are running the PowerOn campaign not only on TV but also here on local websites (Fox, KMOV, and KSD). Is this all really necessary? I think for most of us we just want uninterrupted service during storms and heavy use.

Seems funny how we don’t hear or see any PSA’s from Laclede Gas, MSD, or form various water companies. For the most part we don’t hear anything until the news runs a story about them. Did you know that Laclede Gas has been changing all the copper lines to PVC? Plus did you know that Laclede moved the gas lines along Hwy 367 and now along I-64 at their expense and not the consumer. Also they moved all their gas reserves out of those big round tanks and into underground storage.

Now for MSD we mostly hear about them through the news. Water is the same only hear about a break or a boil order.

So does Ameren really need to spend money on this advertising campaign where I am sure it could be used to hire some workers to trim trees, to bury cable, or making sure its workers are monitoring important gauges?

Thats because you haven`t lived long enought.or like most american your attention span is about today. All
of these mention companies have used their P.R.Adds, when they had bad publicity, are asking for a rate increase.Hey,those kids that are taking business in college, will need jobs in this country, and the politician can only hire so many and thats only part-time every two or four years

I wrote a blog about this a while back titled 'Ameren wants more money'. I am even more convinced that the PSC should not concider a rate hike while they are spending money on PR.

In the past 3 weeks our power has been off 3 times 4-8 hours at a time and every time a cloud goes by it flashes 4 or 5 times.

Ameren, everyone knows you are the only source of power for us. So stop waisting our money on trying to tell us what a great job you're doing and just give us uninterupted service

Oh,talking about storage tanks I don`t know how old you are ,but in 1973 when there was a supposedy and oil shortages. The oil companies was storing oil off the coast in tankers, that was an easy plot to figure out.The next oil shortage was a little more intriguing after the 1970s fiasco ,the oil companies started building storage tanks that took a fews years , you know out of sight out of mind .Wa..la.. another oil shortage in the 80s, that one took an investigation. I could go on and on,but I will leave you with this, a favor owed, is a favor needed..

Yes, you have to wonder how they are paying for these ads... Probably with the money we pay them each month!

Ameren - you stink! You gouge your customers every day and take in huge pay bonuses each year. You increase your gas rates by 15% to make more money...you are now trying to increase the cost of DELIVERing electricity by 4% for AmerenIP customers.

What the heck is going on! Oh, BTW, where can I fill out an application.

And....Why must they spend money on Public Relations in the first place? It's not like we have a choice on who our utility companies are. DUH!!!

I could say the same thing about all the money spent on the elections.....

If a lot of money is spent to sell us an idea, then it must not be that great of one....

A good idea I only have to hear once to accept it......

Snoopydad - Do you not remember when the witch from Channel 5 got tossed out for the "fat and ugly" clause in her contract, and was immediately courted by UE to be their public relations person to the tune of $300k/year.

Not only that, but there is a staff of 8 other people in that department. The recording you get when your service is out does sound nicer hovever.

I for one would like to know if the PSC allowed that to be a part of the rate base or they put it outside the base. If its inside the base the ratepayers should be incensed. If outside the base, the shareholders should be incensed!
