just heard the news and andy banker had a segment that union, mo was the first around to have a emergency alert system ... omg hermanns had that for some month now... and its annoying to get a call in the middle of the night with a recording telling you that there are severe storms in the county, especially when it dosent even rain... its scary cause we think that there is a death in our family and thats why we get calls at 2 am, 3 am, etc.. .. it might save lives, some day, but in the last few month it has woke the town of hermann, and the whole county of gasconade, numberous times in the wee hours of the morning for basicly nothing. i also heard that union could sign up for the service... i dont think we have a choice, we get it whether we want it or not.

I'm with ya Rosie someone better be dead or heading to the hospital to wake me up at 1, 2, or 3 in the morning.

Think of how many storms people have survived without an annoying phone call. As my Mom said if the storm is going to get you it will get you. I think she would know since she came from northeast Kansas, where there are some rolling hills, and seen a few twisters while growing up.

I think I want a wake up call if very severe weather. But then again we keep the TV on all night with News on, have been ever since 9/11. Whenever the Alert Signal comes through telling you to change to Weather Station we hear it.

We are also very sensitive to sirens and smoke detectors ever since a house fire a couple of years ago. We almost thought it was a false alarm since we could not see or smell smoke (above the ceiling fire). We almost cancelled the alarm company calling the fire department. I think if a tornado would ever come through we would become ultra sensitive to this too.
