I just looked at the poll on the front page here @ MyFox.  Personally I like the age of 17.

I have told my boys driving until you are depended on it getting to point A 2 B its a luxury.  You are not ready to be in the working world yet and most companies will not hire a teenage unless they are 17.   At the age of 16 you just want to play around and show off you got your license.  But, how many of those 16 yr old kids have a job...They think its fun and games still they are not ready for responsibility yet.

My oldest will be 18 yr in April and he still does not have his licenses.  I was 22 years old when I got mine.. Not that we don't know how to drive we both were not ready to get behind that wheel.   All though at the age of 16  I did have a job and I mostly walked..That is where my oldest is lazy..  He will not get a job,but he thinks we have all this money to toss around.  I love how I mention to him about a job he complains no transportation.  Darlin' those 2 hoofs at the bottom  can hustle around town in joyful play  so what's stopping you from walking and getting an application.

Classic here:   While I am out running errands he will text or call me to pick him up applications while I am out..  WOW, he has a lot of courage to ask me that.  What  is the deal here.  Oh, And I llove the talk about how they will raise their kids totally different.. HA, well, you may in some ways, however, mommy and daddy's stamp  is all ready buried deep with in.  So, for this driving age I say 17 works well for me because I know my kids are not ready.

Sixteen is fine - just need more "on the road" training with a qualified instructor. It seems that too little is practiced in the extreme traffic situations.

Us boys were all driving already at 14, maybe not on the highways but the rural roads. We were taught early to drive tractors and then the grain trucks back and forth to the fields. Yes times are different now, maybe parents need to spend a bit more time with their kids and teach them to drive. And bring back drivers ed back in more schools again. But 16 is fine and i know a lot of 16 year olds that do have jobs too.

I am a country girl, I was driving a tractor by time I Was 12 yrs old. But, most of us live in the city life.. I know my next driver in the house will be ready at the age of 16 but I know 3 of them for sure will not be ready by that age. I can see my 17 yr old now waiting longer.. I personally think he has a fear. I am not going to pay $500 for class for him to learn. That is crazy.. When he is ready he will let us know.

there doesnt seem to be too much hassle with sixteen being the legal age...i dont know why everyone is trying to stir the pot on this issue...sixteen is a great time to receive your license...

I believe 16 is fine and haven't seen any data proving it's too young to start. However; I do agree that more drivers training needs to be done versus the classroom training.

I do not know the breakdown of training hours in the car and classroom but when I was in Drivers Ed - the driving sure helped mainly in true traffic conditions.

16 is fine I think, however more training for young drivers could help reduce the number of accidents that teen drivers are in each year.

Im sure there are a lot of people who disagree, but I think raising the driving age to 18 would be a big mistake.

I would love to see it raised to 18, but it's fine at 16 as well as long as there is a parent or at least an adult riding along so that the teen doesn't end up messing up. With my limited eyesight and limited reaction time, I feel better off with the bus. An automobile is a very powerful weapon. I rather see the age limit be left alone and go with more supervision to help cut down on accideents.

part of the problem is when kids are from a small town and their drivers ed training doesn't take them on the interstates where you got people driving 70-80 mph or the hustle and bustle of big city traffic.can be overwhelming if all they drove on so far was a 2 lane highway or small town traffic.16 would be fine if they have more hands on training

I think they need to raise it to 18. At 18 we say that they are adults, then they should take on all the responsibilities of adults. I got mine at 16 and wished I had waited a little longer. If you give your kid their license at 16 then they need to have a job and a way to pay for insurance and gas. To many of today's kids don't take responsbility for themselves. Today's teens are too worried about text messaging and talking on the phone, and we want that behind the wheel of a car?

I lived in Ohio when I turned 16. There, you had to have 40 hours of classroom drivers education and 24 hours behind the wheel before you were even allowed to take the driver's test. It seems much more lax around here.
