For a while I have been taggling the idea if I should let my other 2 boys have a myspace page.  I know  one will ask me if dad has one and when I say nope, he says, good, God wanted me to have a life.  Then my other little rodent has asks for months and my honey and I have tossed it around.

Well, figured since many will never allow it this is what he have done to hopefully  help on some insight on myspace.

1, Parent can have control over the sight no different if you have parental control for their emails.  Myspace is popular and the in thing.   Set it up for private and only you know the password.  So when they want to log in you have to log them in for them which also gives you the right to delete friends, comments etc.  Explain the rules and regulations not just about myspace but what you expect from your child.

2.  You help them build their page.  At the same time you add little things for example:

A Letter Scroll in RED lettering Monitored by Parents!!!!  &  Play Nice!

This was a decision my honey and I made together and since we are TEAM PLAYERS we are giving it a shot.  If they abuse their rights in any shape nor form, Bye Bye Myspace and hello Mop and broom...LOL

Which they have to help carry their load in this crib anyway all though they are lazy at times. But what Teeny Bopper isn't.  If you make the disaster  its your responsiblity to pick it up.. Look at it this way I am preparing you for your first real boss.  Just an insight and hoping this may help educate parents about myspace and what we have done.

My kids had My Space before I did.... They actually introduced me to it.... If the communication laine are good with your kids then there is no harm in it.... If they are secretive and don't want you to know what they are doing then there in lies a problem...... They works with married adults.......

A Lot of my kids friends still stop and visit us even though my Kids are grown and gone.....

That alone should sum it up............

my kids both have one. i have NOT seen anything on there that could harm them. As a matter of fact, one only has 2 friends and they are me and my son! my kids like it just to add their own graphics and pictures to "their page". I check their pages everyday just to make sure some perv didnt slip in some how, but its all been good.

Blake got his hooked up the other night and many of my oldest High School buddies asked to be his friend.

Then the next day they asked to be added to my list. I log into their page daily too. Educating your kids is not hard to do.

Go Check out myyearbook.com. It's the newest craze. It look to be alot of fun from what I seen, and my kids say it's way better then myspace. I won't say to much about young kids having myspace, but I will say this. Just keep your eyes peeled Perks.

But how can you be sure what they are seeing on other peoples pages? Can you limit where they can visit on myspace?

I have visited myspace only a few times and was unimpressed by it. Too many crued and lude people talking sex without any sort of limit or rules that I could find.

Can you block what your kid sees? What other pages they can visit? Or can they just click and boom they have girls fighting and some chic named Candy talking about sex toys and how much she likes using them.

Its sad that so people today have NO morals or a sense of right and wrong, and boy do they love the internet.

because we are computer buddies. Computers all next to each other between the livingroom and kitchen area. There is always eyes open on my end. What happens in some one else computer and household is not my problem.. I just know I am monitoring my kids and that is it.

Perky,
I would have to say no. Just too much junk going on there. But do what you see fit.

Hello there. First off, Parent's should be "just that", PARENT'S, and not just "a friend to their kid's", being just a friend to them is what is wrong with this created "I, Me, My" generation of kid's today. I want to be "REAL-CLEAR" here. Nature as well as liberal's and socialist utopian's abhors a vacuum. Where there are no mature, responsible Father's around to teach girl's and boys how to be good men and women, gangs serve in their place. The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. Children are an heritage of the Lord (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Remember, the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. That's why Republican's as well as "normal people" call upon other responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

What do ya think?.

First off: I am a parent to 4 boys and our lifestyle is unique and works great.

Yes there are many families out there that parents rather be friends than parents, but those people that fall into that catergory are at fault of their own lives. We know what we do here in our household and I know what we teach our children.

I hope parents don't let their kids use the "browse" link to look at peoples profiles.

I have seen hard-core po*n video's and pictures posted on peoples non-private profiles.

AND be sure to check out your kids friends profiles to make sure they are not putting on things you don't want your child to see.

Rachel, most area channels almost promote sex now with all the love scenes. Its out there and the only thing is the parents of those children need to be the parents of their children as well a friend..but parenting will always come first in my household.

I do not like censorship. I feel if you are monitoring your children then you are doing what is best for you and your family.

My 15 year old has a myspace account but I have control of the computer. I bought it, I pay the bills, I look at his account. If he doesnt like it too bad. He doesnt use it that much. He likes Facebook. But like I said I monitor it. I even set his account up. So you need to watch your kids. And thats what I do.

I have a myspace and I guess I'm not very adventurous...lol I only go to the pages of my friends, so I do not see any of the above mentioned girl fights or porn. I think myspace should have a feature that only allows kids to view their friend's pages.
My daughter is 9 and has never mentioned myspace (whew!).
