A 10 year old and his friend playing in a sandbox and next he has his friends to bury him head first in the sandbox.   Now this child is in critical condition.  Exactly how much influence does the cartoons today have on our children today.   I know I see my kids act out a lot of the characters from different cartoons.  I know I have stopped them many times when I have caught them getting a bit riled, or building something that is not in their league.  I don't catch them all the time, but I do hope they use common sense and think before they do. For that is something I have taught them.. before you decide to get real creative and explore your vision you must remember there are consquences.  Which boys meaning, seriously hurt, or death.  I pick stay alive!  I am not done torturing you yet or your not done torturing me.  Plant the mustard seeds and their brain will begin to  comprehend.

Look at the old cartoons, they were filled with non-stop violence; Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Road Runner, etc. Cartoon characters were always getting hit, blown up, drowned, etc. Just because we seen the violence in our cartoons we didn't go out and do stupid things.

I agree with Flaglady. The cartoons we grew up with were very violent, but we didn't go out and blow anyone up.

Some moron in the government will make a law about it. Thats how they handle everything these days. Seems like weekly something dumb happens and blame gets thrown at someone or something else other than the person or thier guardian....

To start with what idiot would have a sandbox deep enough to bury a kid in..... Most are only a few inches deep......

We watched all kinds of violent cartoons growing up.... as amused as I was I never dropped an anvil on anybodys head like I saw the Road Runner do to the coyote.... We also watched the three stooges growing up and never acted out any of those.....

If those kids were young enough to make a fatal mistake like that then they were young enough to have had an adult in the yard with them watching to make sure they were safe....

Well I don't really have an answer to that but I will have to agree with Mr. Wild about the idiot with a sand box that deep!

I started watching the 3 Stooges when I was 6 and now when they have an episode of the Stooges on they warn parents about the violence in them and to be honest I grew up with the stooges and most of you know how much I love them.

My girls and my grandaughter also love them and I have never had a problem from watching them.

In my opinion I think it was a freak accident but I could be wrong.

Perk I love ya girl!!!!!!!!

And also it seems today there is more violence and sex and it also seems like some parents really don't care what their child watches no matter what it is rated.

I have seen that!!!!!!!!!!

In My Opinion

No I don't think cartoons have anything to do with it at all!

I agree mr. wildflower...Even then, sandboxes are the most dangerous things around. Black widow spiders love to nest under the sand and you never know they are there. My children were well supervised while in the sandbox and they still ended up in the emergency room. One scooped up a hand full of sand as the other was moving his head downward towards the sand..needless to say, the older child ended up with an eye full of sand. He is very lucky to have his eyesight today. Each pebble of sand could have scratched his cornea and ruined his sight. But, the question is ....do I never take them to a sand beach? Cartoons and television shows all have some form of violence, but something is wrong if the children think they can re-enact a scene that could be very dangerous. If there is supervision, it will be stopped and explained why they "don't" re-enact the act.

cats poop in sand boxes, YUK. Unless you have the kind with a lid then you only have to worry about spiders and snakes.

Watched Buggs Bunny my whole childhood and have never once killed a wabbit.

Some kids know what is real and what isnt and some kids just dont get it and dont have anyone in their lives who will teach them better.

I think you either have the ability to hurt others inside you or you dont. It's just a question of when (not if) it will rear it ugly head and someone get hurt or worse killed.

My boys and I watch The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Andy Griffith and I Love Lucy.

The shows are great and I record them on our DVR so we can watch at any time. BUT....watch the commercials. We had Girls Gone Wild commercials during The Brady Bunch? Now I have to edit these shows!

The only cartoons that I let my kids watch is from Disney in the morning. Well at least I try too. Sometimes I will sit down and watch cartoons with the kids and if I think they are too violent or too stupid then I turn them off. Of course I get an earful about it. Oh well, they will thank me in the long run, won't they? LOL
