It's Saturday afternoon and I'm trying to find Chrysler workers or their families to talk on camera about both locals in Fenton turning down the national contract.  How do you feel about the offer?  Can anyone expect iron clad job security nowadays ?

Anyone willing to be interviewed call me PRONTO at 314-644-7546.  Thanks, Betsey Bruce

Me too, because I am confused. Sounds like some of the plants where they have product guarantees to build, avoiding plant closings, are the dissidents. What would these individuals do if they didn't have a new model to build? That retooling could cost a lot of money, but could Chrysler choose to put that line at another plant that voted yes to the contract, such as the one in Wisconsin?

Many are not happy that many of the workers are not protected in the contract and make a whole lot less!!! Also the auto company plans on dropping 8 models and workers will be let go!!!

There are some interesting economic functions in progress here:

1. The workers have progressed themselves to a very high wage (some people believe they may have negotiated themselves out of a job!). There is the problem of job security!

2. The Company wishes to pay their employees as little as possible (within the contractorial agreement) and make enough profit to make their stockholders happy while keeping their products at a competitive price for the buying public. There is the problem of outsourcing the manufacturing to countries without labor unions and/or minimum wage requirements.

3. The buying public demands lower prices, higher quality and if they don't get what they want, they walk! The buying public looks for their products from foreign companies/manufacterers.

4. There is a problem of CEOs making seemingly overly high wages, benefits and bonuses. Are they truly worth what they are being paid??

There needs to be a balance between wages, production costs, pricing and profits in order to bring calm to this chaos!

I do not own a motor-car but I recommend them to all my friends and advise them to buy a car--so that they will come around and take me out in it. Somehow or other, riding over a rough road in a motor-wagon jolts certain parts of my torso that need to be jolted, but seldom ever do get jolted, same as when I run up stairs. It's splendid exercise and limbers up and promotes springiness--of the stair boards. - Mark Twain May 4th, 1906

I'm a veteran television news reporter who has spent her entire career working in the St. Louis market. I came to Missouri from Buffalo, N.Y. to attend the University of Missouri Journalism School in Columbia and never looked back. St. Louis is an interesting town with plenty of stories to share. I'm always looking for one, but politics and education are my passions.
