The webteam is wondering if any of our bloggers knows anyone at Union University. Their dormitory was destroyed by a tornado yesterday. It's a horrible story.
If you know anyone, are they okay? Where are they know. Sound off. We'd like to hear from you.

Here are excerpts from her email--

"look at these pictures of the bank that sits right in front of it on the corner. When you turn off Hwy 45 to go over to Target, Arby’s is on the right and the bank and Union University is on the left. All I had heard was that windows were blown out. I didn’t hear it was like this. I bet they had someone watching it all night.

The station that sits on the right hand of the street before you make that turn was also destroyed. The people getting gas there were picked up along with their cars and tossed 100 feet or more. The people driving on the road right there, also had been picked up and thrown quite a few feet. Regional hospital, where I had my surgery, had some damaged done to it as well.

I don’t know if Arby’s or any of the stores in that mall were damaged or not.

"Interstate 40 at the 73 marker had some big rigs tossed around. One was thrown on top of a car and then went down a ditch. Haven’t heard yet how the driver of the car was. An eye witness was driving just in front of these 2 and he got picked up and put against guard rail then the other happened."

I'll see if I can get info specific to the University...

Stltoday.com reports that-

"More than 20 students were stuck behind wreckage and jammed doors, mostly for short periods, in battered dormitories at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Tornadoes had hit the campus in the past, and students knew the drill when they heard sirens, said Union University President David S. Dockery.

"When the sirens went off the entire process went into place quickly," Dockery said. Students "were ushered into rooms, into the bathrooms, interior spaces."

He said about 50 students were taken to a hospital and nine stayed through the night. But all would be fine, he said. The students "demonstrated who they are and I'm so proud of them."

I know someone who lives in the dorms at Union. I haven't spoken with her directly, but have heard from family friends that her and her suite mates were hiding in their bathroom. When they came out they found that their whole external wall was GONE....
