Several bloggers have brought up the question of what category a blog should go in to ... and wonder why we change a category on blog occasionally.

As we review blogs each day, one of the things we do, along with checking for staying within the FOX blogging policy, is whether the blog is in the category best suited for its content.

Many times a blog could fall within several categories, and sometimes there is not a category that best fits the blog.  When we can, we will move one of the blogs that can go into several categories into a category that is less frequented, in order to spread the blogs around to all the categories.

This also gives the blog more exposure longer when it's featured in a less popular category.

The "News" category is the first thing many bloggers come to when writing their blog, so they just stick it there.  You'll notice more blogs in the traffic section today.  Because of the highway closing, we have moved some of the news blogs over to traffic.

News and entertainment are the hands-down winners every day.  More posts go in to those categories than all the others.  When we see a blog that can also fit in another category we'll often move it.  If we feature you in one of the other categories, you'll stay there longer.

Hope this answers some questions.

I usually do news and entertainment, but the blogs like the ones about my car I put in news because I felt it was news to everyone to know that we were ok. It could have went in traffic, but people don't usually go there. Actually I feel we need a section called personal. That way if you have something that is not news or entertaining it can be placed in a personal section.

I think we should just have a Miscellaneous category period. LOL!!! I usually stick with music and entertainment.

If its music-music
news- news
politics-political
religion-faith
weather-weather
i think these are pretty darn self explanatory.... LOL however, entertainemtn is everything else... until we get a misc. category......... LOL

While we are making a wish list I agree there needs to be a general blog and also a Ask The Professional catogory. Many of us can offer good solid advice for fellow bloggers given our profession, work experience and background.

I think the blog sections are just fine. I stick with News and Entertainment. Everything seems good to me.

Figman, that is a great idea.

You made the mistake of adding the FAITH blog which was obviously someone's personal opinion from within Fox 2.

You need to keep (excl Faith) it the way you had it.

Fig: I have to disagree because what constitutes a true professional and you now become liable for your input. This is why on "lawyer night" call in on another station they only go for like 30 to 60 minutes and there's a liability waiver.

It's a great idea but would hurt the information specialists. We seem to already have good input on specific items (such as yourself on insurance) or others on related fields that fall in with "news" or "political" etc.

The thing Fox 2 probably wants to steer away from is liability and that's in their blogging policies - release of such.

Connie3212: I'm with you on that idea - most sections are fine.

Speedo, ya got a point on liability. I don't know if I could trust certain professionals mainly on a "blog". Not only would that pro be help accountable but so would Fox. I tend to stay away from anythign but the NEWS tab because that seems to be the most interesting while MUSIC and ENTERTAINMENT could be combined as ENTERTAINMENT. The FAITH tab came about right around the time I started blogging and since I have never used it - I cannot comment on it.

I think things are fine now. What's the stir?

Connie3212: How are you anyway? Did you guys have a good New Year? Have you noticed a few of the "over opinionated" bloggers and their absence? Maybe it will be a great blogging year!

I bet that your husband is amazed at some of our new laws in Illinois...?

Speedy and biker - I understand the concern about liability and I have been warned for the past 20 years by many people telling me I am putting myself at risk. I would agree that I am taking a risk. I feel the risk is worth it to help people understand what most consider to be a difficult industry to understand and deal with.

Although I represent the industry to the public I also represent the public to the industry. I am a mentor for a number of agents and I have been a moderator for industry classes in the past. I have also helped to critique training publications and have some industry published writings. None of that means anything if I give bad or wrong advice.

I believe anyone who earns a living whereby the public entrust them with a product or service, should give back something to the public they serve. I know not everyone can be trusted but those that can have a great deal to offer. I have a motto that has never failed me yet in anything, "do the right thing." I do however take to heart your concern.

I guess we'll see if they add it - I'm looking forward to the liability side. It would be in their best interest to shy away from a true "ask a professional" because on occasion - not rare - sometimes the professionals are dead wrong. This happens in both collared professions.

Biker: Quit calling me Speedo! I haven't worn a speedo .... EVER!

I like the faith and news the most. PLEASE keep the faith! I go there daily so do many others I know.

I like the idea of "ask the professional". Perhaps it could be worded differently or have a disclaimer that would protect Fox2 from the "lawsuit happy" people.

Speedy62269 read my blog

A disclaimer doesn't fully remove liability...but not creating such a change DOES eliminate it 100%.

Who are the new owners of Fox 2 anyway? If it's a bunch of attorneys....there goes blogging!
