People do still care......!!

Fundraisers for people in need have been going on longer than any of us have been alive...... Last night my wife and son attended a trivia contest fundraiser for a small child that had been dealt a really bad hand in life....... She won the contest and donated the prize money back to the little guy..... She did keep the two bottles of fine wine that came along with the prize.... ( atta girl )...... Last night I played a free gig at Trout Lodge for a lot of kids, family of these kids and others that also have been dealt really horrible hands in life....... But for one magic night this free weekend and party on the dock at the edge of a magnificent lake took all the cares and worries off of their faces and replaced them with smiles...... They danced the night away..... This was all made possible by 4 hard working gals that raise money year round to pay for this event..... They are what I call a true charity..... Not a big orgazination whose overhead eats up contributions ..... High paid execs are like sharks that go on a feeding frenzy once they are used to a fat paycheck paid out of donations...... I prefer to keep my charitable contributions local and to a small group..... I usually play music for 6 or 7 of these benefits per year and at each one there is this strange feeling that God is right there with us...... I will only participate in what I deem a true charity........ God will only help those who can't help themselves........

Have only ever attended one big fund raiser. I do however donate to many organizations both large and small. I found the following site a great help in making sure of the legitamacy and the financials of each.

The biggest one I went to was back when I was young ...like around 21 ( a long time ago!) and it was one of those 50 dollar a plate things. This one was put on by Anheuser busch and I dont even know what the charity was for. I didnt pay for the plate either....I was a guest. But it was quite the shindig...like prom. All dressed up and all....it was fun for me being 21....

But some of the better ones I have been part of is a huge garage sale we put on at our church for the poor in Bolivia b/c we had a team going there to help.

Car washes....spaghetti dinners and many more to send teams to Africa and other poor areas to help build homes etc...

My hubby went to Costa Rico on a mission trip to help build and clean poverty stricken areas. FOlks always come back with a different perspective on ALL we have here. Even those in the poverty level here have so much more than many in those places.

Many complain about the govt here but the govt in other countries are so corrupt that all the money goes into their pockets while children starve....

I donate my time and horses in a different type of way. usually a trail guide or drivng a team of horses for hayrides at blue springs ranch. Helped with st jude rides, childrens hopsital etc. A couple of months age i was asked to help give hayrides with their team and wagon kids from camp rhythm, kids either on a heart trasplant list or that had a heart transplant, raning in age from 12 to 16. Not having anyone that could harness and drive a team...how could i say NO. Even tho swamped with horseshoeing and in the middle of hay season. That day the Isoms knew how busy i was, i told them the hay will wait and the horses be there tomorrow. After seeing the looks and smiles on those kids faces, standing next to the big drafts horses....No one can say NO. It made their day....things they never get to do, that I take for granted. I will help again, maybe in my small way of donating a little of my time here and there to put a smile on their fave. Like you Wild, there's times we have to do it.

i also donate anything that i dont use around the house to charity

Our family has a very large fund raiser every February for Cystic Fibrosis! Last year was our 25th anniversary! My uncle lost 2 children to this disease and has dedicated his life to helping find a cure! Fund raisers are so much work, but in the end the final total makes it all worth wild!

Good for you, Mr. Wildflower!! Your story gives me hope!! I believe God helps us all every day. Just to wake up in the morning to a new day is a blessing!! If you want to feel rich, count your blessings!! And I count folks like you, Tommy, that can see past their own nose & see what others are feeling & help put a smile on their face just like you said. I volunteer twice a week at the Kent clothing bank & food bank. It keeps me busy plus it gives back to the community. Think what a wonderful world it would be if everyone gave more than they took!!

54, retired From Chrysler. Substitute school teacher, sell Real Estate and also D J and host Karaoke shows. Love to work out and play volleyball. Back surgery in 95 was a major setback, but have recently regained my competitive bowling skills. I see things in a third dimension.
