36 hours without is rough when not expecting it..!!

Wow I lost my A C yesterday morning and just now got it working..... When your not used to having no air without a backup plan, it is rough..... Windows and a couple of fans doesn't keep a house very cool..... Getting a serviceman on a hot day like today is another chore ..... But when I described the problem over the phone the owner of the company told me that he was pretty sure he knew what it was doing and could fix it on the way home this evening..... Well it only took 10 minutes to replace a capacitor and the A C was fired and cold..... Less than 80 dollars including the service call and the Igloo was ready for the Eskimo..... We never had air as a kid but we did have some big fans pulling air through the house.... After a hot sweatty night with little sleep, I am looking forward to tonight.... Tomorrow I will go one forward and clean the squirrel cage, A coils and hose off the evaporator...  A clean A C unit could add as much as 15 degrees to your cooling power......

Have you lost your cool lately.....!!

Oh yes, July 4th weekend topped it. Although the AC didn't go out (use minimally anyway), had power surges that blew up 2- 27" TVs, the microwave, the X-box and 1 CD player. My gosh-how can we exist? ...(yes, we ARE "spoiled")

NOPE, we didn't lose ours. We don't have A/C. We prefer not to have it cause it messes up our sinuses. Anyway, we both like the hot weather. I know, I know, you all think we are nuts.

During the day, we try to fix the fans to blow out, and in the evening, we blow the nice cool air in. FEELS GOOD TOO.

The air is starting to pull down in here now..... Ron with my wife's asthma we have to have the air on.... She has a rough time with the summer air ..... In the fall we open the windows and let the coo air blow through this place.......

Yes I am spoiled. I use my air. Humidity does not work well with my asthma either. I can go out in the heat and humidity as long as I have a humidity free place to go to. Don't like it cold tho. Oh no!!!
We never had air conditioning until 1971 when we bought out first house in Illinois. Man it got hot. We never turned it on until after the 4th of july. Now it is on like right after the winter is over.

We have had a lot of cool night so far and I open a couple of windows put a fan in one and sleep like a baby....under a BLANKET.

Last night got a bit uncomfortable....this a.m. I got up and turned on the air conditioning before I left for work....

I know I'm spoiled rotten!

mr_wildflower, you are so right about the 115 in 1954. You know the story your mom tells you " I spent 22 hours in labor, etc? Well add the fact that my mother really was in labor for 22 hours and the temp. was 115! I was born Aug 18, 1954, my mother always said is was the hottest day of the year (don't know if that's true). Honestly, I can't imagine being in labor for 22 hours with no air conditioning! Remember sleeping on the porch when you were a kid? We used to pull our mattresses out on the back porch - or camp out in the yard. I can remember the grown ups all sitting outside talking while we ran around like crazy. I don't take heat well at all any more and my air conditioning is usually on by the end of April. It really is amazing what you get used too. I have not lost my air conditioning in the last couple of years and I am so thankful.
