Hello all-

 

just curious about the following.....

I work in HR during the day and then part time maybe 3 days at a retail establishment.  What is it with the public?  I am seeing more and more people enter our store 5 minutes before we close and we politely tell them we are closing in 5 minutes and they acknowledge it and then they are the ones still in the store 30 minutes after we close and get this, they don't even buy anything......  I personally also love the ones that come up and literally almost break the front door trying to get in after we are closed.  We have 2 doors and if one is locked they try their hardest to open it and then do the same with the other.  Or better yet, it is really necessary to be waiting in line at opening time?  I guess I understand around holidays, but on a beautiful day, there is a group of people standing outside only to come in.

What is the appropriate time for a store to close?  9, 9:30?  When we close at 9:00, they think you should be open til 9:30 or 10????????

they r shoplifting if they come in five before the store closes and dont buy antyhing. your store hours depends on your business and the shoppers you desire.

If I go to a sit-down restaurant 5 minutes before closing they still servce me. Some servers will try to hurry you out others say to take your time. Not that this happens on a regular basis but it has happened.

If I were a Retail Manager and sales are tough these days with all the competition, I think I would let the customer shop. An Associate could ask the customer if there is a certain item they are looking for and offer to assist them. This always seems to help the customer on without being rude. As the Manager, I could send employees home and check the customer out myself.

True but if they come in near closing and consistently don't buy anything I have a problem with that too. Are these the same people coming in or just happens randomly wiht a variety of customers? When I worked retail many moons ago the door locked at closing time and any customers inside had to have the doors unlocked in order to leave. Those were better days though where the economy was a bit more stable.

I run into this alot being in the insurance business. It does'nt bother me at all if they are coming to make a payment. But if its someone that wants an insurance price, well if you dont then they think you don't want their business. Plus I have to restart the comuters, wait for them to load then go on line to get to quote, sometimes that alone takes 15 minutes. They all know that you close at 5pm, for an office in a small town, and they wait til 5 pm to come it?? This sounds like a Get it off Thursday issue! LOL

In the 2 weeks I worked the close shift at Walmart we gave like 6 warnings over a 30 min period. The more kind people only needed the one warning. But not everyone is kind.

There was always a few (actually a great many few) that were just being ignorant and rude. They pretend they dont hear the announcements. Just keep on wandering around the store. When you asked them to please move to the registers. They would act like HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME.

Then when they finally drag themselves to the checkout they say they dont have any money. Or me personal favorite they just dump their stuff on the floor or on some random shelf and leave.

They were just killing time, soaking up the AC, watching the TV'S playing with the video games. Eating whatever they wanted off the shelves (STEALING) Letting their kids run wild all over the place.

My mother works at Shop n save and they have tons of people that do the same there. They pile up a carts of stuff and just leave it to rot in a aisle. Terrible.

sarcastic: I hereby conclude then that the Walmart employees are going to Shop-n-Save leaving food to rot in the isles. And, the Shop-n-Save employees hang out at Walmart playing video games and grabbing some chips while doing so.

People don’t care about the store rules, they go and expect the stores to accommodate them. It’s the new attitude. If you don’t like the way an establishment runs its business, instead of going elsewhere, you expect, yell, or adopt a passive aggressive attitude till it changes for you. Part of it is that we are all trying to do things in one run to save gas, time, etc. and part of it is that history shows if you don’t like something – complain and you’ll get it your way. The customer is always right…

Couple of experiences I had – my son had an emergency with his car and it died, but he was able to get it into a car part store parking lot right before closing. He went into the store and asked for a jump and was told they were closing and too bad. That, I thought was rude. Its not like he planned to get there and disrupt the workers time table.

I went to a pharmacy and it had closed a few minutes prior. It was no big deal, but the pharmacist was so cool. He got my prescription for me and walked up to the front so I could still get it. I thought that was very cool.

Thank the sue happy people and lawyers why others hesitate to help.

Do you know some chain stores have security systems that requires them to leave the store a certain time? If you go pass that time a security company will come out to check on them. It is not a phone call an actual security personnel has to see what is going on.

Maybe you should pay for AAA on your vehicles so you son does not have to rely on others, let professionals help him. I hear if battery cables are not put on properly it can cause damage.

It does not appear to be the same people. A lot of it is due to they have come from across the way after eating and don't want to go home rather wonder through the store, and trust me have no intentions of buying. The comments we usually get "killing time" or "just browsing". I mean our hours are posted so even those with bad eyesight can read them. As I have mentioned before, I think that kids need to work in retail for a while so they know what it is like. Since I have been working in retail I am more considerate of follow retail stores. As far as those that scream to get their way, I have no problems as a customer when I see that make a statement to let them know their actions are rude and they might want to grow up. I had one case where I was at a grocery store and was waiting to be waited on and this lady was yelling at the lady behind the counter due to the coupon she felt should be doubled and it clearly stated do not double and the cashier was trying to explain that, the woman would not stop yelling. I said, "do you realize you are wanting this lady to make your coupon double despite what it says?" she told me to shut up, I told her you might want to return to your trailer. I know it was rude, but come on, what she wanted was illegal.

The trailer remark was down right insulting, but what do you expect from someone from St. Louis. We all know how judgemental "those" people are. LOL
