First thing I would like to know is why was this not on the news. Oh yeah I forgot our lovely mayor does not want anything bad about his town to be known to the public.

On May 3rd at the Valley of Flowers Festival there was a shooting ( sometime after dark ) it then traveled down Patterson Rd to Limedale Lane, and more shots were fired in this quiet neighborhood, a drive by shooting. This happened around 9:30 pm, the kids involved went through 3 of my neighbors yard and ran to St. Ferdinand Park where they were caught and arrested. There was one victim who apparently was shot in the rear end. The driver of the car is still on the loose.

What do we have to do to protect ourselves against this kind of crime? What should be done about the Valley of Flowers Festival? I wonder if it should just be shut down completely due to the rising number of gangs that seem to come here just to start trouble. What a shame for the good citizens of Florissant and the surrounding communities. Should the mayor start putting up metal detectors and limit the entrance to one? How do we stop this from happening again? For the last 4-5 years the trouble seems to just get worse!
I for one will probably not return nor allow my son to go. I know we should not run but I want to protect my family from these gangs. It really hits you hard when it comes into your quiet neighborhood.  No we cannot run but we can hide. As I asked in the beginning of the blog WHY WAS THIS NOT ON THE NEWS?????

The reason you don't hear about this is because florissant is famous for keeping these things under wraps. They turn everything over to St Louis county for them to deal with it. That way they can stay on the list of being one of the safest cities in america. However to do advertise their DWI arrest.

Gangs have been an issue before, its that why they put the tall fence around where the rides are? They could do like they do at the malls (parental accompanyment required).

A few years ago it was gangs of mexican kids looking to start trouble with the gangs of black kids that are here in Florssant.
Is this still the issue now or something new do you think?

All that happened right after I left dinner right by the festival. All of these kids were running thorugh the parking lot. There was plenty of police but you cant expect them to do anything when there is 100 or so minors running through the lot. I think they should still have the festival, just shut it down at sundown. All there is, is troubled kids that have nothing better to do execpt cause problems. Im just glad I have a .40 caliber with me all the time.

The reason you didn't hear about it is probably because nobody died in the incident. The city of Florissant is in the midst of promoting their economic growth right now. Just the other day some officials were riding around in a patrol car showing/telling the world how much they've grown over the past 5/10 years And how safe their city is. They used the Cross Keys Shopping Center as an example. There's no way they're going to report any type of violence like a shooting. Especially when it happened during or right after the Valley of the Flowers. That's just bad PRESS.

There are dozens of shootings weekly and many of them are not news worthy, none of them are news worthy unless it helps in the capture of the shooter.

I like the way Florissant protects it's residents from none-sense. Good job Lowery; keep up the good work. They are only kids but they are dangerous; if the parents won't raise them county jail will.

I hate to tell you all, but that wasn't the only shooting in Florissant that night. Lowery is WONDERFUL about covering that stuff up. I do agree with shutting the grounds down early. Even that night(Saturday), the police shut the grounds down half an hour early because of all the fights. And the Knights of Columbus organizers were mad! I would rather them shut it down and keep people safe. I am on the fence about the fair still going. When I hear people talking about taking their young children, I tell them to go early in the morning as soon as it opens. I live a couple blocks away. But I won't even walk down there to get some food or drive anywhere near it that whole weekend. I avoid the area as much as possible. And Lowery can't expect the police to watch everything that is going on when they ALL have to work that weekend. And on Sunday, some get off their regular shifts at 6 in the morning and then have to be back for the parade 6 hours later to work until they clear the grounds at night. Can you say overworked and ready to jump the gun???

Why didnt the news report the shooting on 5/17 by Robinwood School. Even the county search helicoptor was involved and finding the suspects.

Why is the new scared of Florissant? All the more reason something needs to be done!!

For more information go to www.topix.com and put in Florissant zip for the location. Many residents are speaking out about what goes on in Florissant. (some are just blabbing)

i know about that shooting to my friend lives close by, they heard the shots. this makes a total of 4 shootings since the first weekend in may hhhmmmm makes you wonder how many more there were that we as citizen dont know about. when will the people of florissant say enough is enough and get rid of our so called mayor. why does he insist on saying how safe his city is when we all know thats a crock of crap.

People need to start calling the news themselves. Especially when you are close to the shootings and have information. The mayor can't stop it if citizens call themselves. Now, if the news station you called fails to report it, then we have another problem on our hands!
