What has happened to our society? I hate to reiterate our parents' comments, "when I was your age, I had to walk in two feet of snow, for over a mile, uphill both ways, to school." But over time, we've grown into a bunch of really paranoid whiners! I find it amazing that so many schools close. At least this time, there's actually precipitation on the ground! This city closes schools at the slightest forecast of weather. And we all know that the forecasters are less than accurate a lot of the time. This city closes schools and dumps toxic chemicals onto dry streets, when weather isn't even imminent. How many times have we seen this city close a bunch of schools and dump chemicals, and then the forecasted precipitation never even occur? Chemicals are expensive. And the concrete and asphalt roads those chemicals degrade is even more expensive to repair. The chemicals create potholes, and then we all have to absorb expensive car repairs after we hit them.

For all of the people who complain about their kids' school NOT being closed, I guarantee that there are far more parents upset when the schools close, without a millimeter of precipitation ever to fall on the ground. Everyone is so protective of our children..."oh, I can't have little Johnny standing out in the cold waiting for a bus." But then, when they want to go to the nearest hill with their sleds, amazingly, it's not so cold anymore. In this day and age, both parents are usually employed. So, when schools close, a parent also has to cancel their workday. It's very disruptive to mess with families' sched

I agree with your comments. In this day and age of whinners and politically correct society. What happens to the cities that get so much more snow and ice. Does a city like Denver shut down and close school every other week for snowfall?

I agree with most of your comments. However, there is some weather conditions that occur where as the schools do need to be closed at least for a day, where the streets can be cleaned and made easier for the buses to travel as well as everybody else. Everybody cannot drive well in this type of weather. It's better to be safe than sorry.
