1 inch of snow plus 1 inch of sleet in addition to 1/4 inch of ice from last night
most of the neighboring towns around here lost power for some time today due to the ice storm from the day before.
05:12 right now, and just heard two rumbles of thunder
edit: heard at least 5 more rumbles between 05:27 and 05:36 with freezing rain and sleet falling outside

right before i leave for work, it was sunny outside. when i got to work, the clouds just to the west were pitch black. right after the shift started, the storm blew through. it toppled the newspaper vending machine and destroyed the smoke tent.
I called home during the first break couple hours later found out the high school gym lost its roof, and the high school is just two blocks from my parents house.
happened last night. places like Tamms and Scott City got over golf ball sized hail, according to KFVS.

the brunt of the ice storm missed my town by just 20 or 30 miles to the west. it hovered between 30 and 33 degrees, and we did have a little ice on the trees (especially out on the farm), but we got mostly cold wet rain (with little sleet mixed in) throughout. the kids in neighborhood were disappointed (because it meant going to school on Friday).
mother nature does have a fine line of precision and nashville/mt. vernon was on that good side of that fine line; st. libory/fairview/collinsville was not.

i was channel flipping between ktvi and kfvs (we live in a area where we get both st louis and cape girdeau stations). if you thought st james got rocked, then go down I-55. perhaps dave needs to take a few lessons from what they do on kfvs when they put this on their screen: "if your are in this area shown, seek shelter immedaitely".
