that 2 mile section of route 161 I was on in the video was closed down about 3 or 4 hours after I shot the footage around 8:30 AM after I got off from work. The last time Crooked Creek covered the highway there was back in 1991 when an Alton couple drowned when their vehicle washed off the road.
Crooked Creek is known to take several days to recede when it does flood out, because the drainage in this area is not very good at all. It has to wait for the Kaskaskia River to crest before it goes down, and even so, it only goes down slowly.
Hoyleton-Hoffman Road was also closed last night. As a result, I had to add about 10 minutes to my drive and pray that the trains weren't passing by a certain crossing that I had to cross to get to work.
Middle Creek was shot at the time of its crest, at one point the night before the water was less than a foot from the I-64 pavement at the 52 mile marker, but the highway remained opened.
