The Democratics' great idea to produce more oil is TO FORCE OIL COMPANIES TO DRILL WHERE THERE IS NO OIL. Drilling dry holes would do 2 things the Democratic Party wants. It would keep oil companies from making any money and make it to costly for Americans to drive cars.

If you are a Democratic and would like to see the price of oil come down you might want to tell your congressman to drill where the oil is-----NOT WHERE IT AIN'T.

The Democratic House actually has a bill before the house to make oil companies drill where there is no oil.    There is no end to the lunacy.

kdubken - fortunately the oil companies are not in the business of drilling dry exploration wells on purpose. I haven't seen any talk of this bill in the trade magazines, but essentially what would happen if they were "forced" to drill dry holes or marginal prospects in the US, there would be a shift away from capital allocation to US exploration to drilling in other international locations where the prospects are better. Hell, Exxon/Mobil could go to offshore Africa to drill wells and sell the crude into Europe and make their money that way. Profit numbers would look better and none of the oil would even see the US shores. And, if the foreign exploration find was big enough, it would impact prices in the US due to adding to the global supply.

Force is a bad choice of words. The bill they were debating ( I think they passed it)was camouflage legislation to make people think the are doing something when they are not.The Democratics are saying that the oil leases already bought have to be proved out and drilled or given back to the government. This is already the law. They are just making more excuses not to drill where the oil is.It is good political propaganda to blame big oil and President Bush for high prices. The Democratic Party would rather have the political issue than do anything about it.

Well wheather its the democrats or the republicans, the both are ganking us, GAS IN MEXICO IS LESS THAN 2.80 A GALLON. so we are only up the street and we are at 4.00 a gallon, who's ganken who. Its your government people, demo's and repubs. if you can get gas in mexico at that price, so should we. ITS YOUR STUPID POLITICIONS!!!!

No! It is their smart politicians. Mexico can produce Gas for 2.80 and set the price in Mexico because the gas company is a government company. They dam sure don't sell to the US at 2.80.

You are correct the Democratic proposal is a camouflage, in order to divert attention from themselves. They want high gas prices and they want to blame it on Bush. The Democratic policies created high gas prices.

We have more oil than the Middle East combined, and the only thing stopping us from retrieving this oil is the Democratic Congress. Gas prices have gone up 90% since the Democrats took over the House and Senate!

The Democratic Party leaders in congress say the Republican answer to high oil prices is to produce more of it.-------DUH

REMEMBER WHEN AL GORE SAID THAT
THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD WORK TO ARTIFICIALLY RAISE GAS PRICES TO $5.00 A GALLON?WELL…AL GORE AND HIS FELLOW DEMOCRATS HAVE ALMOST REACHED THEIR GOAL! OF COURSE THIS WAS DONE UNDER HIS GLOBAL WARMING AND YET WHEN YOU LOOK AT HIS HOME AND HIS FUEL SPENDING PRACTICES HE DOES NOT PRACTICE WHAT HE IS PREACHING. GORE TAUGHT BO WELL.
NOW YOU KNOW THE DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN LYING, and this should prove they are NOT for the poor or middle class people - they are for BIG BUSINESS. BO WILL BE FLIP FLOPPING ON DRILLING FOR OIL - WATCH AND WAIT.

Well to this blog, I make this statement.

The person is a fool and vary stupid.

The price of oil is being driven up by big shot Republican Hedge fund owners. Yep, those good'ol boy's in the Republican Party are sticking it to us poor folks.

It's not the hedge funds doing this is the speculators....but the moron democratic answer to the need for more supply is not to drill in ANWR of The Gulf...makes alot of sense...close our eyes and maybe the 'demand' will go away...

To the point that we have enough oil in the U.S. to satisfy our need is correct. If either party stands in the way they are being foolish.

$2.40 in Mexico is like $10 to an American. Remember the Mexicans are dying to come here by any means.

Did you know the Venezuelans pay less than $0.25 for a gallon!! They hate us and won't cut us a deal. But yet we buy from the Middle East.

History always comes at us full circle and we need to weigh in all the variables. Until we stop making oil more valuable than that of precious metals, it will continue to rise in value. We need to push for the invention of substantial means of transportation that does not require it. We need to allow the production of Diesel Passenger Cars like in the rest of the World that get over 50MPGs. We need to explore Hydrogen Fuel cells more aggressively and stop waiting on the Japanese. We need to ship more freight by Rail or stop shipping it at all and by locally.

Even if we have enough crude here to give us more time, which is all that it is giving us is time. We need to break away from it and blaming people for it is not making this happen any faster!

legolas - welcome to the world of littleknow2000 who is only capable of parroting the democrat talking points.

This is the same guy who was telling everyone that 75% of a barrel of crude went to making jet fuel and we all needed to quit flying in order to lower the price of gasoline. The guy's arguments are simply vapid!

Irf everyone produces their own oil, it will not be as expensive as it is now, the more available the cheaper it will become.

This blog was intended to open a discussion of the statements of Biden and buddies concerning oil leases already owned by big oil. Democratics accused oil companies of stockpiling oil leases and purposely not drilling on them. Presumably this was to reinforce the oil companies argument to open up off shore and Anwr to drilling.
The first fallacy in the Dem argument is that oil leases are 10yr leases. The first 5 yrs of the lease is used to obtain required state and federal permits to explore the lease for indications of an oil pool. The 2d 5yrs is then used to obtain permits to set up a rig and drill. The lease, after 10yrs is forfeited.
