If you head out 44 on your way to herman you will pass Eureka with lots of antique shops. Some can be seen from the highway. There is also the midwest antique mall by six flags. If you go down the old center of the town by the railroad tracks there are shps down there including a quilt fabric shop. There are also several small family restaurants. One is Joe Bacardis (sp), It is the original one, you will not find a better pizza anywhere. If not in the mood for pizza you can go to two nice guys for the best hot wings in any town. There is so much to do on your way to Herman..plan two days and spend the night at a bed and breakfast and tour Herman the second day. Or do herman and the wineries and sleep over and do washington and Eureka the next day. BTw..Don't miss a great winery on BB call "Bias"

thank you for the reply. We will be going out that way west on 70.First stopping at Crane's at the Williamsburg exit. Then its another 20 miles or so to the (heated) cabin we are staying at near the NUKE plant.Herman is only about 15 miles from where we are staying.I will save your suggestions for another road trip. Thanks again.

This pic is what I like to call my happy place.I cant wait for spring to get in full bloom and get back up to the woods.Just sitting in the middle of all that nature really gives you time to think and reflect on things.I have had deer walk within ten feet of me while sitting in the woods, what a great feeling to be at one with nature.
