What is your favorite sports memory? Did you hear it on the radio, watch it on TV, or were you actually there to see it?

This is about sports not a sporting event. I live in a very small town of 825 and Yogi Berra's wife is from my neck of the woods. I ran into Yogi and his wife about 15 years ago in a small country store where they were having lunch. I asked for his autograph and he invited me to sit down to lunch with them. We spent over an hour talking about life and baseball. We were the only 3 people in the place and it is something I will never forget.

This is not major sports but there is nothing that will ever top this in my Mind....When i used to play Slow Pitch Softball.....There was this old guy..Listen to me calling someone old named Major....Major was geting near 60 but he was still the best pitcher I have ever played with.....Well Major was batting and he hit a ground ball to the short stop....he took off running down the first Base line and his Pants fell to his ankles...he was wearing no underwear....The shortstop could not even throw the Ball and the scorekeeper was sitting in a lawnchair near First base and she fell out of her chair laughing so Hard....Major was so embarrased that he just walked off the field and never made it to first base....needless to say, he was the Butt of all jokes the rest of the day....

I was on slow-pitch softball teams also, but at this particular time only as the bat-girl. We played at Johnny Mac's in Valley Park. Our team was represented by a large-profile company still in Fenton where I worked for 24 years. The most exciting games were when we played against the STL Cardinals Football Team from the '70s. Dan Dierdorf, Jim Hart, Roger Wehrli and others never failed to beat us. Nevertheless, there was always a huge turnout when we played them. Good times and memories...

My oldest son getting his first autograph. This was back when the pitchers sat in front of the stands and we were in the first few rows. He walked down and right up to Hub Kettle and asked for his autograph. I am sure that this made Hub's day as much as it did his.

Another is meeting Dave Dravecki (sp) the pitcher who lost his arm to cancer (broke during a pitch).

Another is being in a conference with Ricky Horton, he is probably one of the sweetest men out there. There were about 10 of us on his team so we got to spend a lot of time listening and sharing.

My most memorable, was the day Ozzie smith retired. I remember watching the game that day, as they honored him. Him and his son both did the famous back flip. I loved watching the Cardinals during that era. So many great players. How could I ever forget.

My hubby was stationed in Germany the summer McGwire was hitting all of his home runs. Normally, we didn't get a lot of baseball, and little of it was Cards games. Needless to say, I was THRILLED when they started broadcasting the games LIVE so we could watch Mark break the record. That game STARTED at 2 AM local time. I stayed up long enough to watch him break the record and went to bed.

The 1980 Olympic hockey game with the US and the Soviets. Taped delay but I avoided knowing the result. What a complete shock. We(US) had a big tournament but to defeat the Russians with all their firepower was the most incredible thing I have seen. Watching our crowd in Lake Placid grow with emotion. Knowing how much work was possibly about to pay off. Knowing how fast that group of Russians could score goal after goal but we were not breaking. Counting down the minutes and worrying, gritting my teeth and just wanting to know the result could really be what it seemed it was going to be. Watching our guys staying with the best in the world step for step and stride for stride. Watching the guys reading each play and how could Craig keep making saves when the Soviets had us beat in odd man situations. And the end? Hearing horns blowing in my neighborhood. Seeing flags out the next morning. The enthusiasm in the air. Then to watch the game that clinched the Gold!! The boys never quit. The work ethic and heart they showed. Thank you men!! It was the best moment I had ever felt! Now THAT is hockey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jwstl47, I too follow motor sports more so than the team sports. I can remember the first Air Race that I went to at Fox Field (in Calif.). I can also remember the first time I met Don Garlits. He still remembers my parents not letting him race at the strip they were running in Fla. I also have fond memories of the 7th Asian Games in Teheran, Iran where I was an English announcer for field hockey. Talk about a ruff game! They took players off the field with broken bones! I had a couple of classmates that were entered in the swimming events and would go watch them compete. Yes, those were the days.

sorry guys it was about me, i was 32, the oldest one on my hometown womans softball team, they were all younger by 6 years of more... all the women my age all retired already. but i went on to play coed for 9 more years, anyway we were in a tournoment on a field we never played before, our coach came up to me and said , now rosie this is a shallow fenced mans field but i think ya can hit a few out. and i was pretty confident that i could too. well i was also the only pitcher for our team at the tournement too, and on our first game we lost, fell right into the loosers bracket, which was almost never happened before to us.. so the next day we got there and one the first game, i hit two balls on the fence but not over, a few where the outfielders had my number already and played the fence and for 2 straight games everone of my hits were caught on are about the fence, well, by the third game i was mad, 2 outs bases loaded and i wanted to hit a grandslam so bad. i was wore out from pitching so much already an i wanted to do it ,,, but i dident think i could, so i called time out and went and told my coach that i was gonna take a half swing and put it down right over the infield so we would win... well then he was mad at me cause he hated when i did that, but did it often to keep from flying out to deep center, he told me if i got out doing that that i would be walking home... yeah leroy, i was scared...ha ha . welll i took the half swing and it landed perfectly between the shortstop and short center, i only made it to first and stoped while all the ducks moved around and we wo

This pic is what I like to call my happy place.I cant wait for spring to get in full bloom and get back up to the woods.Just sitting in the middle of all that nature really gives you time to think and reflect on things.I have had deer walk within ten feet of me while sitting in the woods, what a great feeling to be at one with nature.
