If you have not has the chance to visit  "The Wall"  it will be here in De Soto Missouri at Walthers Park this weekend.  If you have never had the chance to see it, you should make it a point to.  It is very impressive.

Its weird, my uncle who served several tours in Nam has zero, I mean, ZERO, interest in seeing this wall.

He thinks that the buddies he left behind wouldnt have wanted a wall with their names one. In fact he says they would think it was stupid and silly.

He says he doesnt need a wall to remember his lost friends, their faces in his memory are enough for him, not some stone wall. His words not mine.

His says this wall "is for the families and the soldiers who have trouble moving on with their lives" Again his quote not mine.

Are there any other people who have heard of this before? Or is my hard headed uncle the one not able to moving on?

Sarcasticdragon. My husband don't need a wall to remember either.
But he was very impressed with this wall when we seen it 6 year's ago in Sullivan.
To me it is a recognition Wall of those who lost their life's.Their names for every in stone.
I have a few thing's my hubby brought back I need to see where I can donate. Not much but the pamplet's of a few pilot's that lost their life were he was stationed from the memorial they had.I will check into it one of these day's.
Me, myself I want to go to Washington DC to see the real one. But I cryed all the way through the moving one. Can't imagine how I would be with the real one.
Some people can't move on.
God Bless those who lost their lives for us then and now.

I visited the wall several years ago in O'Fallon, Missouri. I was fortunate enough to not have anyone close to me die in that war but was old enough to remember it. To me, the wall was the only acknowlegement I could participate in to those whose lives were lost. It was one of the most moving things I have ever experienced.

Sarcasticdragon, your uncle lived through the war and lived with the lost lives of his buddies. IMO, yes, it is him that isn't moving on, but that is his choice. Tell him thanks for fighting that war for me and I'm sorry for his loss.

I think the wall is agood idea...look how busy our lives are...if it makes us stop a minute to thank them in our hearts or with a prayer..then it's worth it...they paid the price in blood so we can enjoy FREEDOM...

It's not so much there for him to remember his friends and comrades, sarcasticdragon, it's so WE don't forget! It's for the future generations to get a true feel for the amount of lost lives that goes with war!

I had family serve in Viet Nam but, I believe they all made it back. My uncle was shot up a bit and has more metals than Forest Gump. I still had to check it out when it stopped in St.James Mo. a couple years ago. It was pretty impressive if you ask me!
