OK, Here's my story.  One week before Christmas, my son approached me and said that his friend Florian who is a German Exchange student needed a place to stay for the second semester of school.  We had meet him once or twice and he had been to our home.  If he didnt get a new hosting family in seven days he would have to finish the school year in Germany  and drop out of the exchange student program. He is 16 and a great person.

My husband and I agreed to take in Florian for the second semester and he is now living in our home.

My problem is I think we are boring this poor kid to death.  We don't get out much in the cold part of the winter and my son works part time usually weekends.  I explained to Florian that we would probably not do very  much until it started warming up some but I feel really bad that he is here in this great Land and I have not showed hime any sites .  He has been to Grants farm, Hidden Valley Resort.  And the Exchange student program plans events once a month.  they will be going to the Science center and  a couple of museams in the next couple of months.

Should I worry too much about taking him paces now? Or just wait til it warms up?

What places would you suggest taking him,  remember I live in Southern Jefferson County  and keep the monetary issue in mind.

thanks

He is here to go to school.... Not sightsee....
I would not feel guilty unless you lock him in a room and don't feed him......

When the weather changes have a party....

Hosting an exchange student is fun! We hosted a student from Sweden during the 90-91 school year. He's 35 now and we're still in touch via email and he's returned a few times for a visit.

Get to know him. You will learn so much from him and he from you and your family. Share with him our holidays, customs and traditions and language and let him tell you all about his.

This cracked me up. I came home from work one day and he was eating a bowl of "cereals". He always added an "s" to words.. lol Anyway, he said, "This cereals is salty." I saw the box of Bugles sitting next to him.. I laughed so hard. It took me a while to recover. I told him that IS NOT cereals. He said, "Well, it was up there next to the other cereals."

We took him downtown to the Arch and did a lot of walking like he did in his country. They only had one car per family then. Gas was way more there than it is here today even. Union Station was always fun. We took him to baseball games. We went ice skating in the winter; Take him to your child's sporting events at school even if he isn't involved in them just to see what kids do after school hours. Get together with other exchange students for an international dinner night where they can cook things that they miss from their country. Ours missed blood pudding.. yuck.. gag. He didn't make that. Whew..

Do show him around. You wouldn't want to come that far and not see our great state/country. Jonas got to go to Florida with the band. He played guitar.

You'll make great memories. Have fun.. It's really a short

rosie.. that family should be reported.. sounds like they wanted a free AuPair. The exchange program isn't a nanny business. It's a lot of responsibility to let a school aged teen from another country drive her kids around.

When I said they should go to school sporting events, I meant of their peers, not of the kids they have to babysit. I feel sorry for the girl from Germany. She needs to talk to her exchange leader.
