Amen........

That is all we need, corruption and greed in our healthcare system.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were privately held companies...just like the Insuance companies we have now. Since Republicans have pushed to privatize everything... from our military ie. Blackwater to our prison system this country has gone to hell in a handbasket. No bid contracts to rebuild Iraq (like DICK Cheney's Haliburton) go to friends and chronies. We have rats crawling on our wounded soldiers at Walter Reed (privatized), California thrown into economic crisis by Enron, (Bush buddies), prisons traded on the stock exchange, so the more people in prison the greater the earning potential...it's sick.
Every industrialized country has universal health care and it works. Tax payers actually get something. Our tax dollars are used to police the world...meaning protecting corporate interests abroad. And now this bail out of PRIVATELY held companies on the backs of taxpayers. More corporate welfare. I for one am sick and tired of turing over more than half of my income in the form of taxes and then paying $15,000.00 a year for health insurance. Health insurace that has some $8.00 per hour person dictating to my doctor what procedure or what medicine I can have. Yes..I'm really glad there's no coruption or greed in YOUR healthcare system?!?!

If universal health care is working in other countries why do the people who can afford it come to the US for treatment. Or as in England and Ireland get insurance to get out of the Gov plans. The insurance companies don't tell any doctor what procedure you can have while in countries with goverment run healthcare they do. The lending companies Fannie and Freddie were setup very much like the post office in structure.

I for one don't want governement run healthcare. I want to be able to chose where I go for care. Why is it that so many people want to get into the US? We offer immigrants free healthcare ie MEDICAID! I used to work for a medicaid company and ugh we gave so much to people who came to the US. Plus I think that if you offer insurance to all, what incentive is there to work? There were plenty of people on Medicaid that could work, but were not. I hope the USA does not resort to this!

Here is the bad news katgarner. If you get government health care you get to turn over the other 1/2 of your salary in taxes instead of 15K

This mess should be placed at the door step of Congress . They made the regulations thats the rrot cause . Telling lendeers you must offer loans to people . Weather they have the income or bill paying history to qualify .

In fact this goes back to the Johnson Adminastration . Also check out the money trail from Fannie Mae and Frddie Mack . Into Congress pockets .

Fannie Mae began as a government set up entity 70 years ago under Franklin Roosevelt. It became privatized in 1968, under Johnson as a political ploy in the 1968 elections. Freddie Mac was a government set up entity in 1970 under Nixon to create competition for Fannie Mae. Under the Bush administration, mass scandal and irregularities in both caused a "sweeping house" of CEO's in 2003 and 2004. It's all a moot point, anyway. No matter how anyone tries to spin it, we're in this extreme economic mess due to the Bush administration. It's simple Economics 101. Bush inherited a surplus and exhibted a gross misunderstanding of economics at best, and just plain ineptitude at worst. (assuming we're going to be kind and not actually accuse him of criminal wrongdoing). You cannot continually spend millions of dollars for every one you actually have and expect to have economic growth and a positive result for more than a short period of time. Bush used every tactic in the book to convince both parties to approve his reckless spending plans. Including the power of vetoes and accusing detractors of being unpatriotic if they didn't help bankrupt the country. Try it with your own budget; you'll soon be over your head.

freespirit - evidently any modicum of common sense you may possess is blinded by dogged adherence to your party's pablum.

The problem here started in 1996-1997 with passage of the American Dream Act where liberals thought it would be a nice thing if everyone could own their own house, without regard if they could afford it or not. Once the act was passed, Janet Reno threatened lenders with the full force of the federal government for redlining if they applied normal loan underwriting practices.

This was further exacerbated by Freddie and Fannie playing the shell game with regulators in order for their CEOs to get bonuses while their inventory of questionable loans continued to soar. In 2005, the Congress attempted to tighten regulation, a move that was defeated by Barney Frank, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd and their ilk. Hence you have the problem that is with us today.

First, I have no specific party. Second, the 1996 American Dream Act concerned the reform of illegal immigration and the states rights to determine status for the purposes of higher education funding. Third, the American Dream Downpayment Initiative was signed into law in December 2003. Fourth, I stand by what I said. However, if you don't believe it, just build huge sums of debt on yourself and "grow" your way to prosperity. Good luck on your endeavor.

Sorry, I was reading what I wrote. I said funding because my mind was on the economy. I meant the states rights to determine status of residency. Also, I don't believe the act passed, even though it was introduced several times. I'll have to check on that to be absolutely certain.

Chickenkiller ,
While I agree with you on the time that the real issue was negotiated , the act was already in place for Clinton , he merely made massive changes to the policies.
Those included a system for low income areas to report failure by lending institutions to lend enough money in those neighborhoods and a ranking system for the banks themselves that force them to comply or not be ranked(thereby denied loans for working capital).
It was originally imposed as the reinvestment act under Jimmy Carter.
Clinton and Bush both have made substantial changes to it.
The former being responsible for the garbage loans we are now dealing with.

Yeah, I can see it now:

Patient - "I'm having chest pains!"

Nurse - "I'll need your insurance card, social security card, an official picture ID, personal property tax receipts from the last two years, and your official birth certificate with a raised seal"

Patient - "I have my insurance card and my drivers license. Please, can't you help me? I'm really in pain."

Nurse - "I'm sorry sir, but without the required paperwork, there's nothing I can do for you."

Patient - "Gasp" Thud!

Nurse - "Next!... please step around the body."

That's funny PSylvester20, but the sad thing is that if we get government controlled health care that is the way it is going to be. I love how Obama say we need this, but I'm wondering, is it going to be like the health care that he has. THAT WE PAY FOR NOT HIM! Or are we going to get a doctor like Dr. Nick from the Simpsons!

I like the health care that my employer has of me now. I don't want to change. Hell I can't understand half the Doctors now in the hospitals. What is it going to be like if this government controlled health care takes effect. Lately everything they touch they break and screw it up.

So Rtralles are you willing to give up your health care so others can have some? I don't think it is fair that I worked my butt off getting an education and putting forth the effort to find a good job, so I can have good health benefits. Then have them taken a way just so some lazy SOB sitting at home not doing nothing but collecting welfare can have medical coverage.
