Hey All - I went home for the weekend to visits friends & family in Springfield, IL. Before I left Monday afternoon, I filled up my tank for $1.95 a gallon! Now IL is usually 15 - 20 cents higher than St. Louis. What the heck???? I came back and the lowest I've seen it is $2.12. Someone please explain -- I've missed something!

I just read MoDot Chat's blog about the opening of the west half of 40 being done by the end of November/early December. Noted was the plan on closing the east part of 40 at the same time. WHY would they do this at this time of year??????? Is there a reason they can't leave the whole d*mn thing open until after the holidays? We all knew it would close in January -- give us a gift -- keep the whole thing open until after January 1. Any ideas on why they have decided to do this?

Hi all - just wondering if you've noticed anything strange about the bird population. I work close to downtown and have only seen a few pigeons - that's about it. It seems that just in the last week or so, ALL of the other species of birds are gone! Isn't that just a little early? I was walking in the neighborhood this week as well and noticed the same thing. I know a lot of the birds migrate south for the winter season but isn't this a little early? What do they know that they forgot to tell us?? Anyone have any answers? Just wondering - thanks.

From what I understand, our president would like another $42 billion dollars for the mess this administration has gotten us in. Yet, in the same day, we have thousands of people running, not knowing where, just to get out of the way of the wild fires taking over everywhere they look! We've seen the mess this administration made of Hurricane Katrina -- is this the next mess?? Where does this end? To hell with the land that he lives in -- as long as we help the Iraqi people form a democratic government . . . What the he**!!

Hi - just wondering if any of you from IL know what's "really" going on over the Rocktoberfest concert. I was really looking forward to gong but heard that the St. Clair county sherriff called if off. Is there a reason or is this just Buford T. Justice going too far? Thanks for any information.

I know that I'm not the only one that thinks this so PLEASE, NOT MORE JENA 6 BS!!! Kids beating up Kids . . . it happens every day! Because there was a noose involved and some color, it's just big time news. And I don't want any BLACK/WHITE comments left on this blog -- if you've read through all the others, there's been more than enough said! I have black family members, I have white family members, they all BOOGEDY the same! We all do! March for something worthwhile -- like why our bad BOOGEDY president is still in office -- why we are still fighting camel jockeys in the desert -- why the traffic lights aren't timed! Some of you people need to get a life and stop the garbage that seems to be seeping out of your pores!! And by "you people", I mean black, white, yellow, orange, blue, purple, orange, whatever the he** the case may be!!!

Hi all - just wanted to let everyone know that my brother, who is a Captain with the US Army Reserve, is back in the states from Iraq! He landed last night in Indianapolis but will have to stay there for at least a week to debrief and do whatever else is needed to be done before returning home to central IL. His group was in charge of transportation between central Iraq and nothern Iraq. Trust me, when they do something like that, I have my eyes glued to the TV/radio when there's news of roadside bombs. I just thank God that he and everyone in his unit is back safe. My heart goes out to those that have lost someone there and is not able to celebrate this kind of homecoming -- it's just overwhelming. Please continue to support and pray for those that are still there and are awaiting a safe return as well. Please remember all of those families with sons, daughters, brothers, sister, moms, dads, etc. in your prayers that are still there -- they didn't want to have to go but they have the guts to put up with it.

I know that all of us are getting tired of hearing about the hwy 40 construction. HOWEVER, for those of us that ARE actually finding ways other than that hwy to get to work and around other parts of the city -- Where is the cooperation of the city & county in getting the side roads more accessible?? I live in U-City and noticed tonight when turning onto Forest Park from Big Bend that there be will lanes closed on that road starting next week? What the hell?? They just opened that road? What can be that wrong to have to close down lanes? Anyone know? Also, they all agreed as well to get the traffic lights timed or at least close to it. Is that ever going to happen?? Going home from a friend's house tonight, I counted at least 5 lights between Webster and Clayton that had absolutely no traffic but guess what . . . the lights changed anyway and there I was, the only car on the road, waiting for a couple of minutes for absolutely nothing! When they talked about doing the whole hwy 40 project, THEY (not really sure who that includes) talked about making sure the city, county and state all worked together. From what I can tell, they are working together alright -- working to make our lives a living hell! Any answers out there?? Thanks!!

I was just reading about the Iraqi Government "taking a break" for the month of August. They justify it by saying "we didn't have any important legislation to vote on." WHAT THE HE**!! Our men and women would love to "have a break" but they are busting their butts, risking their lives and for what? We've all heard that we are there to liberate this country and help them form a democratic government. These men and women have worked their butts off day and night to try and make this country better for everyone. My brother has been there since last September and will be there until probably December. I'm sure there are bloggers out there that have family in the same situation. Honestly, what the he** are they thinking over there?? It sounds as if their goverment has learned a lot from the US occupation over there -- let's take some time off and maybe we'll get some things done next month! Great start to a democratic government!

I've heard some positive comments as well as a lot of negative comments about the segment "In Good Faith" concerning the Jewish same sex ceremonies. I'm just wondering about all of your thoughts on the subject itself.
The way I look at it, gays should be allowed the same rights as heteros when it comes to living their lives. I know a lot of you are very deep in your faith and will have different opinions on this subject. However, how can God seriously condemn this lifestyle, that affects millions of people and their families? I mean, from what I learned in church, God knows ALL from the very beginning a person is born -- meaning he knew who would be gay and who wouldn't be gay. Believe me, no one would just "choose" this lifestyle just out of the blue. But back to the subject -- would allowing same sex couples all of the rights of heterosexual couples deeply affect YOUR life? Would allowing same sex couples the financial benefits of heterosexual couples somehow affect YOU? If so, please tell me how this action would PERSONALLY affect you.
What's sad, is that a lot of people I hear condemn same sex marriage actually have at least one gay family member -- whether it be a brother, sister, cousin, etc. They might not even know it but yet they more or less condemn them for being who they are. I'm not looking for any controversial or outright "mean" comments on this so please have at least a little decency and intelligence to be able to back up what you believe (and please not with the much overused scriptures -- I could throw a few back that you probably haven't even heard of or remember them even being in print). Thanks for letting me vent on this subject.

We've discussed this before and I can't help but inquire about this again -- what is so hard about putting one of your fingers on a little stick on the left side of your steering wheel?? For those of you unfamiliar with this modern mechanism, it's called a TURN SIGNAL! It really doesn't take a whole lot of effort to use it! It seems like it's just getting worse in this town. And we have to ask ourselves why St. Louis was rated to have some of the worst drivers in the country?? All vehicles also come with a manual -- they even have pictures of this for you so you don't even have to read about it! Wise up people!

OK - I'm hoping someone out there can answer some of my questions concerning the Hwy 40 construction that will soon be making all of our lives a living you know what! First, is it true that ONLY the stretch between Spoede and 270 will get an additional lane? What is the use for the thousands of us that only use 40 from 170 to downtown? That stretch is terrible! Also, when is the so-called "improvement" coming for working on the lights on country roads? I thought the city/county were going to work on better timing the lights on county roads so traffic would roll more smoothly. Other cities comparable in size to STL have put strict restrictions on highways under construction. One notable restriction is having absolutely NO semi traffic on the highway under construction. Has anyone mentioned anything about this? I shudder already at these trucks driving more than 65 mph down 40. Any help on these questions would be great. Thanks!!
