Several thoughts on the earthquake this am.  I'm from CA so to wake me up with an earthquake is in itself, notable.  It's something that I used to sleep through.

What struck me about this one is two-fold:  One, it's even rhythmicity.  It was not erratic in it's intensity, it was very even.  The strength didn't feel like it rose and fe;l, it was pretty consistant.   Secondly, it's duration. It felt quite long.  Usually they last a few seconds, this one kept going for awhile.  Can't guestimate it's true length because it started when I was sleeping but I wouldn't be surprised if they measure it as 10-15 seconds.

I'm in far West County and it's strength felt like something in the mid-fours.  Rattling, no obvious damage at this point.

Been waiting for the New Madrid to show itself to me, and she did finally.  Hello!

On a side note, after hearing from the woman from Wildwood on the air, would like to suggest that people not only examine their homes after daylight (especially their chimneys) for damage, but please note whatever is hanging over beds on the walls in bedrooms.  The viewer from Wildwood said that she and her husband were holding a heavy mirror over their bed, and that set off alarm bells over here for me.  If you live in an 'earthquake area', please PLEASE do not have heavy decorative items above your bed.  If you do, please consider a different decorative choice.  "Next time" you may not have this sort of warning and a chance to hold it.   You might wake to having the thing slam down on your head.

JMO, but I'm not trying to be dramatic.  Just be aware that if it is heavy and it can fall, please do not sleep under it.

So I surmise that many folks will have an early start to their day here.  Good morning, Saint Louis!

My kids felt the earthquake. I slept right through it. My kids are freaking out. They said the room was swaying back and forth and the ceiling was bowing. I'm in Godfrey, IL.

Wildwood resident too. Was in the loo in our master bedroom and was shook from side to side.

St. Louis resident and remember the one from the late 60's. This was stronger. Not from the New Madrid fault (per Fox 2).

St. Ann MO and things always shake around her because of the airport but not like that!

Planes and jets make the windows rattle and are loud but never make the bed shake and door shake in their jams!

Scary and weird at the same time.

I also felt the quake. It felt like a shaking from side to side.Yesterday my granddaughter was in the yard and she stepped on a large snake, that was slithering away at a good rate of speed. I wonder if that was any indication of a coming earthquake?

My husband had just left for work at 4:30 and I thought maybe he let the cat in and it was under the bed shaking. I yelled at my cat to stop but then when I got up and realized it was the floor too, I kinda got freaked. Then it was over. Poor cat was outside the whole time. That's when it sunk in that it was an earthquake. Kids slept straight throught it. I couldn't go to bed after that. I was soo scared a BIG one was coming. I'm 28 and never been through one of those. Was a cool experience and a scary experience all in one.

I live north of Wentzville up 61N and I felt the first quake at about 430 this morning Then I felt an aftershock about 1015 or so. I was laying in bed and felt shaking like someone was shaking the bed gently, then the pictures on the wall and windows started shaking. I just laid there a minute to make sure I was not dreaming. Got up and flipped on the news about 530 NOPE I wasnt dreaming! At about 1015 I was sitting on my couch and it started shaking again. It was much the same kind of feel as the morning one but this one did not shaking my windows.

I woke up about 5 minutes before the quake hit. My Quaker Parrot started freaking out in her cage, flying in the dark and she finally fell to the cage floor I picked her up and tried to soothe her thinking something must have startled her. I sat down on my bed and felt the quake a few minutes later.

And to think that Quaker Parrots are not legal in California. What are they thinking, I had no clue my little green opinionated bird was also a better warning system that our goverment can buy.

I woke up to my bed shaking and my ceiling fan vibrating. I had no idea what was happening so I just laid in bed and looked puzzled,I had no idea that it could have been an earthquake. I was very happy when I tuned the television to channel 2 news and Glen Zimmerman was reporting that we had just experienced an earthquake. Thanks Glen!
