I know alot of you heard about the one day strike next saturday and your thinking whats the big deal? Well without truckers, the nation would pretty much stand still. With fuel prices for diesel going for anywhere from $3.99 to $4.29 a gallon it is affecting these drivers and our pocket books. They have to raise their prices to cover their cost so it gets passed on to us at the cash register. This not only affecting the independents but also the Union barns. Alot of union drivers are getting laid off because of the economy. No one is buying because the prices are too high now. Many independent drivers are getting out of the business because they simply can't make a living anymore. They once made $1.00 -$1.25 a mile but now these brokers are making where the independents are only making .82 cents a mile. Brokers are the companies these independents get their loads from. So lets see:
.82 cents a mile times 3000 miles = $2,460.00
- taxes = $ 1648.20
- Fuel $700.00 = $948.20
- state and federal tax = $663.74
Not much of a living if you ask me. So once again we are putting people out of work. Why are the prices of oil going up so much? I don't want to say I'm against the troops who are serving right now because I do support them as people of the human race who are protecting our freedom but in my opinion if there wasn't a war on, this wouldn't be going on. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
