I was reading an article about how Kellogs has to make their childrens cereal more healthy and not market to kids.  To me this is crazy, no more Tony the Tiger, Tocan Sam, or Snap, Crackle, Pop?  We all grew up with these characters!  Now the government is saying they are bad for our kids, because after all childhood obesity is up.   Did anyone stop and think that maybe our kids are overweight because us as parents think that it is okay to use video games,  the internet, and T.V. as babysitters?  Here's a thought GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!  And maybe just maybe lets go outside with them....and do things as a family.  I remember as a kid that's all I did, even as an only child there was always something to do and explore.  I know times are different now, but there has to be a way to keep our kids healthy.  Us as parents have to put our foot down and say no more Cheetos, why not have an apple.  If they throw a fit about wanting junk food, they will get over it (I promise :) ).  Hopefully my first blog didn't sound like a crazy lady ranting and raving....now talk amongst yourselves.

You missed half the story. They are not taking them away, just making them healthier.

Yeah making them healtier. But I agree lazy or busy parents and kids not excercising right. But then again we can't let them go out by themselves anymore like our parents could ewhen we were kids to dangerous now. Some parents are working 2 jobs just to make ends meet and can't watch how their kids eat anymore. No one cooks like our mom did.It is all processed and microwaved or fsat food..Don't get me wrong I use alot of that quick easy stuff now.But I do think kids need to get away from the tv and computer more.Shoot even my grandkids don't get out like I did or my kids did. They have gotten really lazy.

Poor Tony. Good Grief.
Once again the blame is turned on someone else and the root of the problem goes ignored.

Turn off the Playstation, game cube or whatever once and a while and make your kiddies go play outside for 30 minutes.

Problem solved.

First Cookie Monster (and no more cookies) and now Tony. I can understand the concern, but in my opinion it does come down to parental supervision, as well. Jeanette, you make some great points. Today's world is so much different than it even was 10 years ago. It's quite frankly - it's extremely concerning.

What it comes down to is the parents not putting there foot down and telling their kids no. NO to all the junk food. NO your not going to sit in front of the tv for 12 hr straight.

only buy healthy foods. As for exercise for lazy kids.... I see adult getting out of shape as well. Maybe you could go out and be active with them. They would be safe and all get exercise.

I agree that it's not Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, Snap, Crackle or Pop (ok, maybe it is Pop)LOL-- fault for making the kids chubsters. Really, people, it's ok to say no to your kiddos. They aren't going to grow up hating you for substituting dried bananas for Ding Dongs. (at least I hope not) Now, me, on the other hand would be quite angry if you took away my Ding Dong. HE HE HE
