MYTH 1 - Higher tax rates generate more revenue for the government - in its purest and simplest form, the best way to generate tax revenue for the government is by cutting taxes.  High taxes, whether income, capital gains or others simply discourage the production of wealth.  Low taxes encourage investment in employees, in capital improvements, in research and developement; all of which put more money in the system to be taxed (in salaries, in sales taxes, etc).  More people are employed, more people are buying goods and services so more taxes are generated.

MYTH 2 - Raising corporate taxes means individuals pay less.  Who do you think PAYS the corporate taxes?  We do in the price of the product or service.  If Uncle Sam raises the tax rate on corporations, they simply factor that into the price of the product.  WE pay the tax.

MYTH 3 - being rich is evil.  Being rich, and having done so in an ethically and morally correct way is not intrinsically evil.  It is the American way of providing opportunity for hard work, creative ideas and taking a risk in starting a business.  Like it or not, it is the rich who provide us with jobs.  Start with the richest - Bill Gates and Microsoft - they have over 65,000 employees.  65,000 wage earners paying taxes.  Increase his costs by increasing his taxes and product sales decline, employees are laid off, and you guessed it...less total tax revenue to Uncle Sam.

The Reagan years and the Clinton years were the best the country has seen in decades.  Why - Reagan reduced taxes and Clinton didn't raise them.  They both knew that the economic engine that drives this economy is production - and to keep companies producing, taxes needed to be low; to keep consumers spending, taxes needed to be low.  More spending (buying) leads to more demand, which means more production which means the need to hire more employees....well..it's a beautiful cycle.

That said, I don't see why anyone would vote for Obama, who has, very honestly, said he will raise taxes on those who create the most jobs.  We can't paint the rich as the evil empire. We can't  expect them to willingly give their money to government programs.  We rely on them for our jobs...and our income.

I'm NOT rich...I'm just your average employee...waiting to see what happens on Nov 4.  And waiting to see if I'll have a job if Obama is elected and his tax increases are passed.

Yup...I'm backing Ted for Pres.  Osama makes a Karl Marx  look conservative..Mc Cain doesn't know which way the wind blows..you can't get straight answers out of either of them.  They are both on the take...Fannie, Freddie, ACORN, etc.

Ya know where Ted stands...he needs no special interest funding or political machine backing.  He'll owe no one favors.  Our enemies will fear him.  There will be NO problem with illegal immigration as I'm confident there will bounties..er...tax rebates....for unauthorized occupants.

And...we won't just get boring state of the union speeches...we'll get a concert thrown in for good measure.

Chavez and Venezuela will cease to exist on the face of the earth.  We'll own their oil.  Our children's textbooks will contain FACT, no political correctness. There will be no choices of languages when you dial customer service.

Now who should he run as VP? ...................Mr. T.  Yeah....that's good.  We won't need secret service.  I pity the fool senator that votes against the Nooge.  Particularly Barney Frank.

Yes..America will be strong, proud and free again....it may also be a little wacko...but look around you now....tell me it isn't a little wacked out now.  It couldn't possible be any worse than under Barry Hussein or John Mc Palin.

Rally round boys and girls...if Obama can steal the election thru ACORN, we can steal it back with the NOOGE.  Nu-gent...Nu-gent....Nu-gent......

Has anyone else noticed that the variable speeds on 270 are not varying anymore?  Perhaps the person managing them is on vacation or out sick.  Perhaps they found out what we already knew before they were installed....no one would pay any attention to them.  No one has EVER paid attention to speed limits on 270.

Elliott Davis...could you please check and see if they've given up?  And please remind us al how much we've wasted in tax dollars on this stupidity. Hold them accountable!!

The plan being working on in DC is NOT bailing out the failed institutions as much as it is insuring availability of credit to ALL of us.  People, read up on this before you write your congressman and tell them to vote no.

You will be impacted if:

- you have a 401K, retirement plan or company pension (if the stock market tanks, the value of your retirement will be reduced)

- if you wish to borrow money for a car or house, there may be little funds available to loan

- if you work, your employer may routinely borrow against a line of credit to make payroll in lean months; this credit may be reduced or eliminated affecting your paycheck

We should never have gotten to this point; it's corporate greed and government stupidity that got us here by making loans to people for homes that were well beyond their ability to repay.

I hate this legislation as much as anyone...but it's like this:  the house next to yours is on fire.  Why?  Because the owner was careless and because the local building inspector didn't do his job.  So..now what?  First you need to put out that fire....then deal with the problem.  If you don't and you let it burn to the ground, it may spread the fire to your home and destroy it.  Same thing holds true here...now is the time to put the fire out...with this emergency legislation.  Next we need to punish the crooks, change the regulations and never let this happen again.  It will take a comprehensive plan beginning with energy independence and must include incentives for corporations to locate in the USA, safeguards for home lending, and tax reductions and reduced government spending.

Tell your congressman you hate this....but vote for it....and tell them you expect a bi-prtisan plan to cover the future of this country.

OK...here we go....PGA schedules their tournament during school, at a course that pretty much rests in the middle of subdivisions....WHILE highway 40 is still closed...then they close Ladue and part of Mason.  Whose brilliant plan was this?  They should have left the BMW championship in Chicago for at least one more year.  The good news is they are forecasting lots of rain for the rest of the week which should keep golf traffic to a minimum.

Why does almost everyone going eastbound on 44 seem to exit on 270 north in the morning?  They added a lane in each direction so folks would take 44 instead of 270 north.  What a pain.

This week's "here's your sign" award goes to all those folks who stop at a right turn yield when there is no reason to stop.  If you would get off the cell phone, you might be able to handle looking left to see if something is coming WHILE you're turning right.  How hard could that be.

Following that bit of ineptitude are those that constantly change lanes on 270 during rush.  If you would all pick a lane and stay there for..oh...at least 1/2 mile, the rest of us would not be hitting the brakes every 12 seconds.

And last..........there's a big sign along 270 that says "if no injuries in an accident, move your vehicles off the road".  What part of off the road don't we understand?

Ah.....I feel better....

What a joke the Brickyard 400 was.  Goodyear tires that wouldn't last 10 laps.  Little Brian isn't doing the job Big Bill France did.  I'm still betting NASCAR will go the way of CART in 7 years or less.  Some big gun in the business will start up a new sanctioning body (ala Tony George and IRL) and hopefully put real racing back in the sport.  NASCAR needs some competiton.  I hate to sound cliche but it's not what it was when Dale Sr. was alive.  Probably never will be again.....

When you drive a top fuel or funny car in the NHRA.  Yup...they've cut back the length of their races to 1000 feet for the time being.  No I don't want to see another casualty like Scott Kalitta but drag racing has always been 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile.  Things change...life changes and I'll accept this for safety sake...but there must be a better way to ultimately achieve safety in the sport and retain the traditional race length.

WOW.  Mark Martin is back on a full time schedule in the #5 car for Rick Hendrick!  This is great for NASCAR.  Mark is a driver's driver. He races hard but clean.  He's a true professional.  With the retirements of Labonte, Jarrett, Wallace and the likes...there's not much positive personality left in NASCAR.  Once you get past Dale Jr, Harvick, Johnson and Newman.....well....the personality/talent pool is pretty shallow.

Glad to see Mark back in '09.  Like to see him win the championship.  Now if they could just get rid of that COT.........

From the folks who brought you Christmas Vacation......now comes the next in the series of classic Griswold family movies....OPEC Vacation....here's an excerpt from the scene where Clark finally has it up to here with high gas prices...he is addressing the OPEC Cartel...

" Why you no good, fourflushing, backstabing, over charging, sand eating, camel kissing, virgin worshiping, inbred, snake licking, spineless, terrorist supporting, mindless sack of money slime......holy camel....where's the Tylenol...."

And don't miss the next Griswold vacation movie coming out this November - DC Vacation.....where we once again find Clark, fed up with gas prices, addressing Congress...

"Why you no good lying, stealing, cheating, bribe taking, spineless (seems to be a theme there), overstuffed, overpaid, tax increasing, overspending, party line voting, could care less about the average American citizen, word parsing, special interest group pleasing, idiotic, arrogant (won't interview on You Paid for It), CFL promoting, mindless sack of pig slime.....holy cow....where's the Tylenol...."

Coming soon to a TV near you....

This Saturday, we lost a great champion NHRA funny car driver, Scott Kalitta.  Killed in a tragic accident that began as an engine explosion at over 300 miles per hour.

Drag racers are a special group...to a man/woman, they always have time for an autograph, a few words, time to answer questions about their car and their sport.

They race not to cheat death, not as a daredevil, but for the awesome thrill of trying to tame over 8,000 horsepower to be the fastest in the quarter mile.

This sport requires the ultimate in athletic performance; lightning quick reflexes and reactions, unwaivering focus and concentration, physical dexterity and passion. There are no second chances, no 4 downs, no 9 innings, no 18 holes.  One chance to win.  The whole game is on this pass down the quarter mile.

We will miss Scott...and wish to express our thanks to Kalitta Racing for the time he spent talking with us in the pits at Gateway, for his ability and for the love of the sport.  God bless his family..and God speed Scott.

Stop basing your decisons on global warming, on who just donated to your campaign, on extremes (left and right) and LISTEN TO US.  The vast majority (and that's what a republic is all about) want our energy costs affordable. If we wanted conservation we would all be driving Yugos.  We all can't afford to buy new gas saving cars this month.

So....put the burden on the backs of the oil companies and open up driling..anyplace there are reserves.  The majority is sensitive to the environment but realize there are realistic limits to saving the planet in the long term and survival NOW.

We can't just magically all switch to solar for our homes, hydrogen for our vehicles.  Please listen to us....the majority....and simply allow the market to function.  Oil companies will explore where it is most likely to produce.  Period.  They won't tear up the planet for pete's sake.  Only the extremes seem to get heard.  Don't drill anywhere.....and drill everywhere.

Don't  you understand that while the Rep's and Dem's are arguing their party line, Omar and Ahab in the middle east are laughing their camels off while we finance their palaces and terrorists.

Get a grip Washington....while you spend time worrying about who's taking drugs in major league baseball...and that pork project for your district....we're going broke buying food and driving to work.    You can't just blame the mortgage companies for the foreclosures....YOU, representatives, are costing each one of us thousands of dollars in wasted taxes and high prices.  And you stand there and do NOTHING.

Let's see...can you spell campaign contributions boys and girls...I knew you could.

Anyone who thinks they are grandstanding to watch out for "us" is VERY naive.  They will be losing BIG contributions.

ARRRRGGGGH

What if they were like us...normal, average, lower to middle income americans?  What if they knew how it felt to spend much of your paycheck for fuel, food, medical coverage, utilities and ever increasing taxes?

They don't....and that's the point.  You truly need to walk a mile in someone's shoes to relate to them.  While they earn big salaries, have full coverage medical at no cost, DON"T PAY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY, are given large campaign contributions by special interests who they then owe BIG favors to......we are forgotten.  Not every politician is like this but most are - let's see, Bush, Kennedy, Kerry, Gore, Cheney come to mind.

They care about power..not about us.  They are above the law.  Clinton proved that.

What if we could break the 2 party system and have normal men and women with normal grass roots values represent the people?  We would once again have government for the people and by the people.

What's wrong with our economy, with gas prices, with the war, etc?  Just look at DC...the parties fight over who'll win the argument instead of what's best for us.  Because they don't care what's best for us....they care about impressing their campaign contributors.

My 2 cents......

OK is it just me or is over half the driving population unqualified to get behind the wheel?  It's not just about getting there fast...or safe....it's getting expensive to be caught up in others stupidity.  Dumb drivers cost us all wasted fuel.

Here's how you can help...

1 -drive a steady speed

2- don't talk on the phone, shave, put on make up, eat or look around - eyes on the road

3- don't stop at a yield....after all it says "yield"....look for traffic while your vehicle is still moving and then only stop if necessary

4- don't look at the wreck on the other side of the highway or even on your side of the highway - drive by at the posted speed limit.  It costs fuel and ususally causes more wrecks to rubberneck

5- go when the light turns green, not 15 seconds later

6- don't look for the parking place in the lot you're turning into until you are fully in the parking lot and out of traffic

7- on a 4 lane road...if you're in the left lane you should generally be going faster than cars in the right lane

8- don't ride your brakes down hills...even if you go slightly over the posted speed, it costs more fuel going back up the other side

9- ignore the variable speed limit signs on 270 - there's power in numbers and if we all do 70, who's going to stop all of us

10- always yield right of way to mustangs, corvettes and jeeps.  They are ALWAYS the best drivers

11- if you have a hybrid car - prius or insight or the like - yield to ALL other vehicles...or feed the hamster at a higher rate..especially going uphill...and by the way..exposure to those high powered batteries causes ovarian and prostate cancer....enjoy your gas savings

12- if you must tailgate on 270, do it nascar style and get right on the car's rear bumper..you will sustain much less damage in the ensuing crash

13- NEVER yield to a bicycle - particularly the idiot with the death wish driving on a narrow 2 lane road.  Bike should be on trails.  Cars and trucks are bigger and have the right of way

14- salute your fellow drivers with the ENTIRE peace sign - not just half of it

15- don't drink any alcohol AND THINK YOU CAN CONTROL A 3000 pound projectile.  YOU CAN"T. YOU CAN'T.
