as i looked out my living room window at daybreak this morning to see how big of a shoveling job i had ahead of me, i see my brother cleaning the snow off of my car! because of the nature of his job he didn't work today so he spent his morning going around to my family's houses cleaning off sidewalks and cars. how sweet and helpful is that?! you can refer to my bio...as i said, i have a family that i wouldn't trade for a million bucks.
for some reason i can't get my pic to show, but click on the link to see it! hopefully it will work.

apron strings...how in the world do you cut them? my son will be 18 next month and is a senior and my daughter is 14 and a freshman. i'm having a real problem facing the fact that my son will soon be wanting to start a life of his own without me, and my daughter has slipped into typical teenager stage of her friends and the Jonas Brothers being what her world revolves around. all just part of growing up, i know. how do learn to let go a little? good kids. sooo hard!

so......i got up at 3 a.m., got my daughter up at 4 a.m., two of her friends showed up at 5 a.m., we all did my daughter's paper route in the dark and the very cold, we drove to the fox theater and stood in a line outside (still dark and all of 9 degrees with a wind chill of negative something!), then after an hour or so that felt like an eternity, we eventually made it into the building where there was some heat. well, that was half the battle (but the worst half). i got a wristband with a number on it and then it was a waiting game for over an hour until they called the magic number that would start the line for buying tickets. approximately 175 people with wristbands would be able to get tickets and luck was on our side,,,when they finally called the number we were #50 in line and got really great, up close seats.
you know that saying "we do more before 10 a.m. than most people do all day"? the whole process was not that bad, it was the hour or so out in the bitter cold that was the killer. i was beginning to wonder how much longer we could stand out there without losing fingers or toes! and that was with coats and blankets! sooo cold!
so what is the wackiest or most extreme thing you have ever done to get concert tickets that you just couldn't live without?

i can't help but notice that there is very little blogging being done about american idol. where are all the fans? i personally can take it or leave it, but i do watch it if i'm home and it's on. i work with one of the guys that auditioned on the second night, but i didn't know about it until i saw him on tv. couldn't believe my eyes! he didn't make it though.

my kids and i went to the movies the other day to see I Am Legend (which was really good), and i was shocked to find out that the admission price was $9.00 per person. i was not necessarily shocked at the idea of a price increase, but that it went from $7.50 to $9.00 all in one jump! for the three of us and all the goodies-popcorn, drinks candy, whatever- i spent almost $50.00. i have no idea what the theater prices are in missouri, but $9.00? wow! cuteypops, i know you live on my side of the river, what do you think? it's getting harder and harder for us poor folks to go out for some innocent fun these days! we have a theater here that only costs $2.00 for admission, but they are rarely showing anything we really want to see. which explains the whole $2.00 thing.

well...my new year's resolution is to clean a bunch of stuff out of my house that should have been gone a long time ago and to get things in my house more organized. i got a really good start today. i went and bought some various size storage containers and got down to business. i have organized my bathroom closet, some stuff in my bedroom, and finally got my house back to normal from christmas! oh, and i cleaned out my bedroom closet a couple nights ago--oh my gosh!! next is my kitchen and then...the dreaded basement. the basement will take the longest, it is ssoooo out of control.
so, what is your new year's resolution?
have a nice evening everyone!

Hey everyone!
I haven't blogged in quite some time, just thought I'd say hello to everyone. I read the blogs regularly, just haven't posted anything. Hope all had a wonderful Christmas and I hope everyone has a great New Year!! My two teenagers and I went to Florida for a few days and came home in time to have Christmas with my family, so things have been nice. Now back to work to make up some lost pay! I would like to find the time to start blogging more often again, it's fun and so many of you are so nice. Let me know how your Christmas went, even some more pics would be great. I love looking at pictures. I'm going to put some of my holiday pictures up this afternoon for anyone who wants to see them.
By the way, Cuteypops, I also shop at Wood River WalMart so I was really glad to hear that your daughter-in-law didn't have any trouble using her gift cards. I've got gift cards I'm planning on using there this evening to stock up on some groceries!
Happy Holidays to all at Fox2 and to everyone!!!

who is your favorite country singer? my daughter and i went to three concerts last year--kenny chesney, rascal flatts and toby keith. mixed into those concerts were sugarland, gary allen and a couple others. all three of these concerts were worth every penny, but i have to say that kenny chesney puts on one awesome show! we're planning on going again this summer, can't wait. my son says there's too much screamin' and stuff to go with us. i remember when i was a kid my mom took us to concerts like kenny rogers/dolly parton(and dottie west), conway twitty/loretta lynn. my son likes a lot of music from the older country artists, surprising since he is only 17 years old. my daughter likes only the newer stuff, she's almost 14 years old.
so, who is your favorite country singer and who have you seen in concert?

i have two teenagers, 17 and almost 14, and almost every day i look at them and i wish that i could grow up all over again. i had a normal, pleasant childhood and i really miss some of the simple thing that made great memories for me. things like, leaving a penny on the railroad tracks and running to grab my smashed penny as soon as the train went by to feel how hot it was. and getting a piece of yarn about 20 feet long and dangling it from the top of the stairs in front of our cats on the first floor, doing cartwheels in the yard with friends, and standing in a dark hallway in the middle of the night peeking around the corner at my dad (my hero) sitting at his desk in his bedroom and he never knew i was there. i really could go on and on, but i am just curious about what some of your favorite childhood memories are. oh yeah, and i can't forget my great grandma's chicken -n- dumplings and lemon meringue pie.................mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! and spending sunday afternoons at my grandma's house laying on the floor watching abbott and costello, the bowery boys, charlie chan and john wayne. wow, i really could go on and on!

just wondering...what are some of our bloggers or fox 2 people's hobbies? (c'mon, we all know we have plenty of time to spare!) or maybe something you collect. me? well, i have been collecting anything teddy bear for several years now. i have a lot of items that are very special to me. i have the very first teddy bear my dad received when he was less than one year old. he will be 66 in 3 days! i have a curio cabinet full of lots of cute figurines, some of them rather expensive. i also have a teddy bear that is made out of a lambs wool coat that belonged to my late grandmother. after she passed away, my uncle took the coat and had three teddy bears made out of it. he gave one to me, one to my sister and one to my mom. so much sentimental value in that bear and especially the one that belonged to my dad. so, just wondering what is special to you, or things you like to do.

i'm needing some good suggestions--
i am planning on using some of my tax return to take my two teenage kids (13 and 16) on a "mini vacation". i am looking for some ideas on places to go that are not too far away (within 100 miles, give or take) or too expensive, as the funds will be somewhat limited. all three of us REALLY need this. i don't see in the near future any major vacationing going on, so i'm shooting for something fun and memorable but within our means. any ideas?
thanks!
