Gray Skies Are Gonna Clear Up....!

Pope Benedict XVI has arrived in the U.S He is expected to talk about how the American culture challenges the Catholic faith. Many U.S. Catholics feel they can express viewpoints that are contrary to church teaching because of freedom of speech. But the Catholic church is not a democracy. Rome has been frustrated with the American Church. Any thoughts?

Hey Dan how ya DoinBuddy ? havent seen you around in a while ... isn't that why we left Europe so we could do what we want .. Freedom of religion Freedom of speech ... I know people hold what the Pope says with high regard but we are a free nation and we should be able to do as we wish and worship as we wish ..

The Church was set up to be a model of the Kingdom of Heaven. A Kingdom by definition has one central authority, that has the final say. In heaven the authority is God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. On Earth the authority is the Vicar of Christ, presently Pope Benedict XVI.
We in America say we have freedom. Freedom isn't the right to do whatever you want. It is the right to do what ever is true in spirit and action. We cannot condemn others who don't believe as we (Catholics), however they know when the views they express are outside the boundaries of the Catholic faith, they are separating themselves from that faith. In essence they excommunicate themselves. They seem to object to that when they are told by the Church authorities, and they have that right as well. This is America. They can start their own church, if they want. But if they want to be part of the Catholic (one, Holy, catholic and Apostolic) Church, they know the way home.
Just as you couldn't keep your job at Fox and recommend others to regularly watch CNN. It is your right to do so, but you would really have to apoligize to the boss to keep your job. Only in this world you would lose your job. In the church, if you repented you would be welcomed back.

rofl michelle.. I'm still giggling at mr_wilds news story title.. good one.

I have a Pope story..(if you long enough.. you have a story for everything..lol) Anyway, I was first diagnosed with cancer in '97. I was starting to feel human again in '99 when I heard Pope John Paul was coming to St Louis. (I'm a non practicing Methodist) but thought I could use any connections I could get during my medical conditions.

I told my son that I had a desire to be there in the Pope's presence. He told me to meet him for lunch b4 one of my doctor appts. After we finished lunch he slid a ticket across the table to me.. ONE ticket to see the Pope. (big smile) I went.. we made eye contact.. I waved.. It was a good day.. I'm still alive..

Scripture does not teach the "Primacy of Peter" I am more interested in what scripture teaches, then what the Pope teaches. I am sure the Pope is a good man, but he does not have any authority over us, nor does he have the ability to forgive sins. I put my faith in Christ alone. The bible is clear that there is only ONE mediator between man and God, and that is Christ.

I could care less about the pope. He's a political figure and like Burke if you don't "obey" his commandments you are deemed "unworthy" for communion.

I agree with the blogger somewhere that said, he can take Burke back home with him.

I'm with the majority.. when the pope comes on, I turn to something else. You don't cover the visit of any other country's leader like this.

I was raised catholic, but have come to believe that it's just a cult like all others. The true faith comes from a person's belief in God, and following common-sense "golden rules" in dealing with others.

Meeting with the idiot bush is laughable. If he didn't ask him "what the h*** is wrong with you" then I don't know what they could talk about. Oh, I know, bush's grandfather used to work for the Nazi government, and this pope used to be one. I guess they have that in common. I'll try watching again when he's back in his castle in Italy.

Speaking of Nazis and The Catholic Church, which has larger genocides on their side? Which one robbed innocent peoples of their national resources the most?

It's a shame to see the amount of bigotry born of ignorance directed at an organization that does so much to help the poor all over the world. People who are in need the most in places like Africa, South America, Central America, and the U.S. would have no way to alleviate any of their suffering if it wasn't for the work of the many Catholic charitable organizations. Ask yourself what you have done to help someone in need.

All Religious organizations are involved in charitable works that help people in need. This does not change the fact that the Catholic doctrine is flawed, and not supported by scripture. The Catholic Church also has a dark history regarding the persecution of non-catholics.

I have Catholic friends who are some of the most sincere Christians that I have ever met....they love God with all of their heart and show it in every move they make.....amazing that some of these bloggers can just carelessly slam someones's FAITH to the ground with a few keystrokes.

Whatever...
