...Well, musical instrumentally challenged, am I....As an adult has anyone ever regretted not taking music lessons as a child (including vocals)?  Boy, I have.  It would be great to now sit at a piano, pick up a guitar or be within a drum set and produce.  Growing up, we really couldn't afford it , although never really pushed for any opportunity.  My daughter's been lucky to take 2 years of guitar (practiced 1/2 hr. every night) and  also plays a band instrument in HS. Maybe she'll thank her father and me some day!  Do you fellow bloggers play any instruments? (We know Glenn does.)  What kind and for how long have you played?  Any kids following in your footsteps?

I have played guitar for 40 years now. All my kids have learned an instrument or two. You are never to old to learn how to play. I have taught people in their 60's how to play the guitar. It does not matter how good you are, just that you have the desire.

I have played the piano most of my life...but by ear. My mom tried lessons for me, and I would listen to the teacher play the song through and then I would pretend to learn it (once I hear it, it's in there)...but would love to learn by note really. That seems to be more talent.

I haven't played much lately. It used to be my talent for Miss St. Louis pageant and Miss Missouri but that was 100 years ago.

I have a piano which I bought so my daughter could take lessons. All three of my kids played in the school band and my oldest son plays the piano by ear. The piano sits here now, silent cause the kids are all grown. I wish I could play it, but would feel stupid taking lessons at age 52.

I wouldn't worry about age in deciding on lessons USF....and you know what they say about the more you stimulate your brain, the younger you feel.
You should go for it!

USF, there are some amazing dvd's out there that will help you learn. Any music store in the area can help you out. You would be suprised how many adults are taking lessons. Everyone has a musician hidden in them. Like I said, it does not matter how good you play. Just that you have the desire. If you only learn chop sticks, it is all good.
Learning an instrument is one of the most rewarding hobbies. Plus it keeps the old noodle busy!

I play most of the woodwind instruments (believe it or not, most of the fingerings are the same) and a bit of piano.
When my children refuse to wake up, I pull out the trumpet my friend gave me and play it VERY badly and loudly. They jump out of bed pretty quickly for that.

I PLAYED THE FLUTE FROM 3RD - 12 GRADE.I LOVE GOING TO SYMPHONIES AND ORCHESTRAS I ALSO DABBLED WITH THE PIANO, OBOE,& PICCALO. I AM OKAY AT THE PIANO AND OBOE BUT I AM REALLY GOOD WITH THE FLUTE & PICCALO. EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE I WILL GET MY FLUTE OUT AND PLAY. BUT IT BRINGS UP THE BAD MEMORIES OF MARCHING IN THE PARADE IN THE 100 DEGREE WEATHER AND HAVING TO WEAR THOSE STUPID HOT BOOGEDY POLYESTER UNIFORMS AND THE HATS WITH A BIG FEATHER ON TOP AND TRYING TO LOOK COOL WHILE PLAYING AND INSTREMENT WHEN ALL IN ALL YOUR REALLY ABOUT TO PASS OUT.
