STL:

The other day I was watching SportsCenter and saw Rangers' rightfielder (at the time) Josh Hamilton field a single in the mid-outfield and gun down a runner who was trying to go first to third.  Hamilton's toss reached third base on a fly and seemed to be on a straight line about head-high.  It was one of the best and strongest throws I've ever seen.  I remember Ichiro Suzuki had nearly the same type of throw about 5 years ago against the A's, showing off just jaw-dropping arm strength.

So that got me thinking, who has the best outfield arm in baseball?  I figure this question has some local appeal because Rick Ankiel is definitely in the conversation.  The names that immediately come to mind are Hamilton, Ankiel, Vlad Guerrero, Jeff Francouer and Ichiro.  Ankiel had those 2 amazing throws in one game against Colorado (I think) earlier this year, throwing out 2 guys at third, on a fly.  Francouer has a cannon, but I don't think his arm is as accurate as some of these other guys.  Hamilton hasn't been around enough to claim the title just yet.  That leaves Vlad and Ichiro, and I give the nod to Ichiro,  because I think he gets his momentum behind the ball, better than anybody else in the game.

As far as worst outfield arms go, I think Juan Pierre and Johnny Damon are tied for first.  And that's only because Rondell White is no longer playing (I think).  Any thoughts?

Yes, Hamilton has a great arm but Ankiel and Schumacher (YEP) have very comparable arms.

Remember, Skip gunned down runners at 3rd (on fly) and home plate (fly?) in the same game. Vlad is good but age is creeping up on him.

Any predictions on how many HR's Manny will show us this series? I predict 3 and one in Big Mac land!

Ludwick and Ankiel both have strong arms .

For some Carndinal Baseball history . Carndinal broadcaster and former Cardinal player Mike Shannon . Had one of the best arms I ever seen in the outfield .

Schumacher does have a good arm, he was a closer in college and got his fastball to the mid-90's. Vlad made a throw from the right field corner in Montreal several years ago that was just stupid. I also remember a throw that Bo Jackson made being unbelieveable, but can't find it on youtube. As far as the worst arm.....hands down Chris Duncan. When he throws home it looks like he's been laying on his right arm for 4 days and has no feeling in it.

due to the bad disc in his neck, which put him out the rest of the year,he probably didn't have feeling in it

It's hard to worry about anybody's arm with Manny comin' to town.

thankfully,i'm sure the cards don't dwell on the fact that manny is gonna beat you everytime he gets up to bat, heck the cards have a couple players in their lineup with just as good of stats as manny's

Alex Rios is my pick for the strongest outfield arm.

when i was younger we had an outfielder that was able to pick off someone at home plate. when the ball was hit in the out field i pitched sometimes and would get out of the way so he could get a clear shot to the catcher. sometimes i would dive on my belly to get out of the way.
