Hi All. I know you have been dying for an update, so here it is.
My wife, Misty (mnmfarmer) was scheduled to go in to the hospital on Monday morning to try something called an External Aversion, which is basically trying to manipulate the baby into a head down position so it could be born normally (since he was breach). The doctor tried three times and on the third time, for some reason I got very weak and almost passed out, so they had me sit down and we decided to go ahead and do a c-section. I was embarrassed about almost passing out, but in the end, it turned out to be OK.
Misty's c-section started out OK and myself and Misty's mom were in the operating room with her. About 10 minutes in, the baby was out, but was rushed past us and into the resucitation room next to the operating room. We could hear him crying and knew he was breathing, but even with a c-section, the mom and dad get to see the baby right after it is born. About 5 minutes later, the doctor told Misty that her placenta had grown through the wall of her uterus and that she would have to do an emergency hysterectomy right then. They put her completely out and ushered her Mom and I out of the OR. In the mean time, I was asked to go to the nursery and talk to the Pediatrician. She told me that due to the stress of the delivery and everything rupturing that the baby had lost some blood and would have to be airlifted to Children's hospital immediately. At less than 2 hours old, he got his first helicopter ride. If that wasn't bad enough, they came down to update us about Misty and said she had lost a LOT of blood and that she was in very critical condition. It was very touch and go for both Misty and the baby. Misty was in surgery for 6 hours and recieved 16 units of blood. We almost lost her and by miracle alone, she pulled through. Once baby Kyle was over at Children's Hospital, he was evaluated and determined to be OK. They were afraid that the loss of blood would affect his brain. Misty was put in the ICU for 24 hours of observation and then sent back to the OB room. Kyle spent 48 hours at Children's and I went over to get him on Wednesday morning. He was discharged right after noon. I brought him back to the hospital to finally unite Mommy and Kyle. Misty did not get to see or hold Kyle in the first 48 hours of his life because she was in surgery when he was flown to Children's Hospital. It was a very tearful and joyful sight. Misty was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon and is home now. She is under strict orders to rest. Her mom is staying with us and helping too.
To make a long story short, I came very close to losing both my wife and my newborn baby, but through the prayers and support of many people, they are both here at home today. I'm trying to attach a picture of him.
