I bought an HDTV a few months ago...19 inch....to replace an OLD 13 analog TV. THis new TV can go up to 1080i.

I have Charter cable hooked directly to it...no box....I assume it is an analog connection, since there is no digital box connected to it, even though I have digital service with a box on my living room TV.

My question is, why do the channels change place every so often? If 2, 4, and 5 have a digital signal....why dont the actual channels come in in digital? Right now I have at least 4 Fox2 channels...all come in in different sizes on different channels and different resolutions. Today my lowest channel is 1-2, in digital, then 2-99 come in very badly in their normal formats on their normal channel numbers.....but the pic is very bad!

From 100-1 thru 119-1 there are MULTIPLE selling channels...they come in beautiful...and I could care less about those....some of the HD channels come in....like AE and TNT.TV....but there is no sound....I even get Showtime ...but no sound. At one point almost every number from 99-125 had a duplicate channel in digital for every channel from 1-99....that was nice....!

Whats the deal??? Next Feb, will all the channels have their correct number....like Fox -2...KMOV - 4...KSDK - 5...and so on??? I understand the fact that as long as you have cable or dish you will have a signal....just what channel will you have to tune in to???

Yeah I know what you mean. Try a full channel scan again, 2-99 sgould be the analog channels.
Anything like 1-2 etc. is a digital cable signal. Methinks Charter is messing with our heads!

If I remember correctly from when I had Charter, the lower 2-99 are the analog channels, and the upper ones are the digital equivalents. If you have high definition (from Charter), there will be another set of channels that have the equivalent in high definition.

I am not getting rid of my old TV's until they are either not working, or if one of my relatives need ones to hold them over until they get a new one. Then I will give them my old one, and go out and by a new one. Until then I will be using a analog tv with cable hook up.

OMG we just went to hook up a box on our nabor's tv and what a job. They get all thier channel's on antenna. But all they could get with the box was 2.1. (Regular tv no cable or dish), Their antenna signal was like 10. So we decided to bring her other box home and hook to our regular antenna with a booster on it, We get 13 channel's with 4 channel 9"s all different show's. 2, 11's. Like a radio station .1,.2,.3,.4.behind everything.
So they need a booster or what they are calling a smart antenna. Going to go price them bet they are high. But hey I have all my channel's plus with just the booster.Channel 2 has been crappy all day but it sure is clear now on the tv we have the box on.
Truman said if he would of know it cleared the picture up that good we would of done this sooner. We just don't get channel 46 and can't punch in anything it don't pick up either.

It sounds like you are getting the QAM signals. It's really hard to describe but basically it is the unscrambled signals from the cable company which puts them on these ramdom channels. It's really hard to describe so I hope this helps.

If you are watching your new HD TV w/o a box, that's considered analog cable. With Charter analog, all you should be seeing is 2-99. If you're seeing more, it's bleeding through. If 2-99 isn't clear, then there's a problem with the coax, any splitters you have, or possibly the signal coming into your house being low. If you don't know anything about it, you'll have to get a tech out to fix it.

In order to get true high definition, you'll need Charter's Hi Def box. And once you have that, you still have to tune in to special Hi Def channels set by Charter to get a Hi Def picture. So you'll have regular channel 2 then channel 2 Hi Def, which with Charter will be like 782 or something.

I have about 4 channel 2 stations..reg - hi def...which is only 720i...channel 5 comes in 1080i....
This is without a box....then I have digital versions ...about 4 of the Weather Channel....those channels coming in digitally, are much clearer than those from 2-99....but are not HD.
2 4 5 9 11 all have dupes of HD and or digital on my set.

I work in registration at St Joseph Hosp in Kirkwood. Our hospital will be moving to Fenton the beginning of 2009. The new St Clare will have the newest in medical tehnology, and will focus on best practices and patient satisfaction and care. You can stop by and see our progress at 141 & Bowles Ave. My life is computer, day and night, for play and work. Gunsmoke, the tv show from 1955 to 1975, is my hobby. I have collected over 200 to 300 episodes of the 635 produced, plus the 5 Gunsmoke movies. 85 year old James Arness has a website where he talks to all us fans on a regular basis. But of course, Fox 2 is the best show on TV these days!!
