Just saw on Fox2 In The Morning....the new book out on Route 66...we JUST got home yesterday from a trip that encompassed much of that route....pics will be forthcoming!!

The one thing that I didnt catch as we were driving by, was Cadillac Ranch...didnt know it was comin up...and zip...there it went. I saw it ...just not quick enough with the camera!

My husband and I left on May 4 and returned yesterday from a National Park trip.....Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon. In 2005 we did the Durango/Silverton trip. It is absolutely AMAZING how beautiful the western part of the US is. In Vail, Co, there was 5ft of snow and you could go out in shirt sleeves....!!!

We drove 70 thru Mo,Ks,Co,Ut,.....then came down to Az,Nm,Tx,Ok on 40/66...then to 44 to Branson for one nite......

In Groom Tx, we saw the huge Cross that matches the one in Effingham,,,but this one has the bronze 12 stations of the cross....and the tomb....and the crucifiction. Very touching!!

Did you know there was a VOLCANO in NM???? And all the surrounding area is mounds of lava rock.

We were in Tulsa Ok spending the nite when the devastating tornado hit Picher, Ok and southwest Mo...only about 100 miles away! We saw just a little of the damage,,,the news there advised people who were sight seeing to STAY AWAY!!

We knew it was windy,,,the wind in NM was something else!! Huge dust storms!! Vehicles were having a hard time staying straight, particularly ones hauling trailers and motor homes....for 3 days.

As soon as I download the more than 700 pics and some video...I will post some of the hi-lites!!

I missed the segment on the new Route 66 book. Does anyone know the name of it?

Route 66 and its lore have always fascinated me. Last fall, we had the chance to visit a very small chunk of it in Oklahoma. We as the Big Blue Whale in Catoosa and the world's largest Totem Pole in Foyil. I have a few photos on my web site if anyone is interested. The direct linke to the page is: http://www.twogirlsgoneracin.com/Route66.htm

Can't wait to see your pictures, cg!

Remember, Route 66 runs through Missouri also. A lot of the small towns have put in an effort to attrack tourists. Fanning, MO now has what is heralded as "the world's largest rocking chair" standing 40FT 4IN tall and 20FT wide. Cuba, MO has about 14 different murals spanning the towns and local areas history, from the visit of Amelia Earhart, the visit of Harry S. Truman, the visit of Betty Davis (a photo was taken of her and her husband chased the photographer through town), there is a mural of apple harvest, the river industry, the Civil War, and of course the local boys going to war. I hope you all will enjoy the MO route 66 this summer.

I work in registration at St Joseph Hosp in Kirkwood. Our hospital will be moving to Fenton the beginning of 2009. The new St Clare will have the newest in medical tehnology, and will focus on best practices and patient satisfaction and care. You can stop by and see our progress at 141 & Bowles Ave. My life is computer, day and night, for play and work. Gunsmoke, the tv show from 1955 to 1975, is my hobby. I have collected over 200 to 300 episodes of the 635 produced, plus the 5 Gunsmoke movies. 84 year old James Arness has a website where he talks to all us fans on a regular basis. But of course, Fox 2 is the best show on TV these days!!
