Is it just me...or does it seem a little strange that a kidnapper would let you get dressed with coat and possibly a purse?????? After putting someone at knife point????

I thought the same thing, so did my 12 yr old. I thought it was odd she had a purse, it was visible by the video. How do you have time to get your purse when someone is holding a knife infront of you. ???

I was wondering the same things. Maybe mom was held at knifepoint till the girl could get her stuff and get away with him. She sure didn't seem upset to me. Could be that mom just didn't want her with him.

What a waste of an Amber Alert!!! If this is the case!! A possible family squabble between mom and dtr and boyfriend.
If I was kidnapped ....as soon as that car stopped...I would have RUN out of it!!

It looked very odd to see her carrying her purse while being "abducted" at this time of day (530am). I would understand if this abduction took place near noon at the mall and she had her purse.

The male that was arrested appeared to be late teens early 20's and he looked as if he "knew" her - it was in his eyes. I am hoping that they check any computers around the apartment and also his computer because that may shed some light also.

But, as of now, I'll believe it was a total abduction (even with purse) until I learn otherwise. Good insight folks and doesn't every news story seem fishy?

I thought the same thing. He should have stopped when the police were after him though if he really had done nothing wrong. I think she probably went willingly but there was some sort of fight with mom that caused it. Initially they said the mom had never seen the guy before, I bet she had and just said it to get them to take her seriously and go after them.
Who knows for sure--only them. I am just glad no one else got hurt and the girl is safe.

Ditto what everyone posted. First thing I said to my wife was that it looked funny that she had her purse and coat.

I am his sister and I want you to know the facts. I am not excusing some of the events from this morning. This was not some random guy like the mother is claiming. They have been seeing each other for two months. Yes, he is over 18 but he thought she just turned 18 and a senior in high school. That is what he was told. I myself have dropped him off at her apartment. Daily. He has spent the night there. So how does she not know him. Nice try. Once again he handled the situation wrong and I am not denying that. These are the facts.

Thanks Jenny....I think we ALL thought he must have known her. And I think we ALL thought the Mom just said what she said to get the police to go after her. I hope he gets out of jail without too many problems. Made some poor choices there....esp the running from police. He should have pulled over.
As far as mom goes....I hope she gets in trouble, b/c what she did could have caused some peoples lives. What if someone was accidentally killed b/c of the chase or the boyfriend getting scared. He was driving fast and could have lost control of his car...LOTs of different things could have happened.
Everyone is very fortunate it turned out as well as it did. But Mom should be facing some fines or something!

BUT even before they had the chase....I was suspicious of Mom and the story.... I was already thinking this was a boyfriend situation. B/c it sounded like it was not a forced entry for some reason.....

This is Jenny again. Thank you for all the comments and that you all see through the lies. Unfortunately the Columbia Police say otherwise. The mother said that he was wearing a red bandana around his face so she did not know who it was. He does wear a red bandana around his head, not his face. The charge of sexual abuse is b/c she is 14 years old. She herself told my mother that she was 18 so how was he supposed to know? Word to the wise... ask for ID before you have sex with them. They did finally stop saying that he kidnapped her. The truth was that the mother tried to stop the daughter from leaving with him and he yelled at the mother. The daughter gave him the keys to leave in the mothers car. That is why now they are only saying the criminal assault and sexual abuse. Thanks again.

I do understand a mom trying to stop her 14 yr old daughter from going with an overaged boy. But obviously the young lady has some problems as well if she is lying to him and to your mom. I hope all of it is straightened out and I hope your brother is done with this young lady.
But again...it is wrong of the mother to lie to the police just to get them to do what she wanted as someone could have gotten killed.
It is all messed up and all 3 have made some poor choices.

Child abuse is one thing, but this hangup we all have these days about overage guys with underage girls is just getting out of control.

How many times occur like this where the girl went with the guy voluntarily, but it's all the guy's fault for "assaulting" the girl. Come on.

In this case, for instance, that police chase, endangering the lives of MANY innocent people, was COMPLETELY ridiculous and out of proportion to the "crime" being committed. So he's over and she's only - *gasp!* - 15? Big deal, get a life if that bothers you so much.

Besides the coat and purse, her demeanor when she got out of the car (as shown on Fox) gave her away - she was with him because she wanted to be. And why is it any of our business? Only her mother should be concerned, and even then maybe it's just not that big of a deal.

The positive thing from this I want to mention is what a FINE job John Brubaker and his camera person do with following chases like this. Makes me wonder why the police don't have the same ability. Hmmmm - you think money is involved here (i.e. no money for police helicopters and pilots but PLENTY of money for the war for oil profits in Iraq).

Anyway, thanks John for doing such a good job following what COULD have been a disaster. Too bad our fine government leaders couldn't provide us with the same level of service.

SikUvTheRite - So...what is the point of your comment? Are you suggesting that parents should not concern themselves with who their children hang with, or are you pursuing a political vandetta? I don't think either option is on this agenda.

The boyfriend is guilty of statutory rape from the beginning. 18 is legal, and 16 is not. Even if the parents agreed, which any decent parent would not do.

Hey SikUvTheRite St. Louis County Pd does have a helicopter that put FOX'S 2 to sham but instead of a camera it has a large spot light and night vision. I just hope the mother is charged with filling a false police report.

I work in registration at St Joseph Hosp in Kirkwood. Our hospital will be moving to Fenton the beginning of 2009. The new St Clare will have the newest in medical tehnology, and will focus on best practices and patient satisfaction and care. You can stop by and see our progress at 141 & Bowles Ave. My life is computer, day and night, for play and work. Gunsmoke, the tv show from 1955 to 1975, is my hobby. I have collected over 200 to 300 episodes of the 635 produced, plus the 5 Gunsmoke movies. 85 year old James Arness has a website where he talks to all us fans on a regular basis. But of course, Fox 2 is the best show on TV these days!!
