Now since the nasty weather is here, the best thing to do is to shift your transmission to your lower gears rather than direct drive due to that you should have better traction. And remember, use your lights each time you use your wipers. See and be seen! Driving in incliment weather with your brain off is a very dangerous thing to do and can be deadly! Stay off your cell phone, and keep your stereo at a low level. Driving in incliment weather is never a good time to have distractions going on while driving. If your car has an electric defroster built in, let your car sit idle until the defroster does it's job!

The sectioin of highway 40 opens up between Ballas Road and Brentwood Blvd. on December 15th of this year. The eastern half shuts down on January 2nd. Metro to no avail has chosen to keep lots of stuff secret when it comes to posting service changes. And stuff like this was one of the things that cost them the tax increase proposal. On Sunday, MODOT is opening the highway to bicycles and pedestrians before they let cars take over. The two things I think that MODOT did that was stupid was that they lied about possible pedestiran/bicycle access to the highway in some spots such as bike lanes, and they also had the opening date to be set on a Sunday when people use that day to go to church. MODOT could have picked a Saturday.

I work in a downtown St. Louis office building that has access to a parking garage that you enter through a gerbil tube from the office building! It's right across from the ballpark! I've only been using the parking garage for the past two weeks, and for the past two weeks I've been amazed I lived long enough to exit the garage alive, or been able to get on highway 70 alive and well!!! The people that work in the adjoining building and park in the garage are the most rude, the most selfish, careless and thoughtless people I've run across in a very long time, if not ever! They will literally run you down in their effort to exit the garage ahead of everyone else. Absolutely no patience, non caring, and could care less for your life, limb, much less your car/truck. They swerve around the corners regardless of who is walking in the near vacinity, they drive like they are crazed down and around the ramps! They run headlong into the exit lanes and woe be unto you if you get in their way. I am surprised that accidents are not taking place on a daily basis, and when one does happen, these people couldn't give a hoot for your life. Another thing that totally dumfounds me is the fact that most of these dimwits are young females!!! They literally dare you to get in their way, and if you do you will be taking your life in your own hands because these people don't have a care in the world about how rude and ignorant they act. It never occurs to them that everyone else in that gargage has the desire to get home, just like they do. It never occurs to them that a little thing like a bit of old fashioned courtesy would work wonders, and make people think better of them. They care about one thing only, themselves!!!
I am disappointed daily about how rude and uncaring the people in our area are. I don't care if you have a Missouri plate or an Illinois plate, rude is rude, and thoughless is thoughtless. Everyone talks about how bad the drivers are in Missouri if you live in Illinois, and everyone talks about how bad the drivers are in Illinois if they live in Missouri. Illinois drivers will drive fairly well until they hit the Missouri border then they take off like they are shot out of a cannon and become destructive drivers. You have to drive completely in a defensive mode now because it isn't safe anywhere, and its pretty sad when its just as bad inside a garage where people should use some intelligence about getting into, parking, and then leaving that garage, and how they conduct themselves out on the street or highway. They think the road is strictly for their own use, and exiting a garage is only for them. But I have news for you - you are the rude, ignorant ones that will end up killing someone one of these days that wasn't ready to die, and then what will you do? I know, you'll blame the victim for just being there when you were trying to get some place! You will consider it their fault, not yours, because after all, you own the road, and all other places where people drive, right?
Am I the only one that has noticed this going on? What's it like when you try to get back and forth to work or in and out of your parking area? Me? I'm lucky I lived through to another day!!!!

I have seen some great ideas for Metro. Some were to have the gasoline tax to pay for Metro's expanson projects. I did mention turnstyles on the platforms to keep the free-loaders/troublemakers off, but Metro states that is way expensive and that is one reason why they chose the barrier-free system. However, you can suggest your ideas for not only Metro but for other public transit systems all over the nation to your elected officials. One idea would be to have congress get the big oil companies to donate money to transit and earmark it for expansion work. Now by federal law, Metro nor any public transit system is allowed to deny service to anyone who looks suspicious unless otherwise instructed by their supervisors. That is because of civil rights advocation. Since public transit is in big need of expansion right now, you can let your state officials know by either email, snail mail or make use of the new transit center by going over there and buying a ticket to go to Jefferson City on the train.

I saw another picture of the Bloggets bus. I see what has casued the wiper blades to be not totaly vertical with the windshield divider. That is because the inner arms on the wipers has warpped some. The best way to fix that is to disconnect the blades and the stablizer from the two arms. The inner arms may have to be replaces by some that are a little bit longer.

There are some things that Metro has done that got the public mad at them. When it comes to building a line, you have to hire a firm that WILL do the work such as design of the route, finding out utility lines and how they are routed, know your environmental areas such as former landfills, etc. The company that you hire cannot be one that sits on their can and does nothing. Plus with the Call-a-Ride, you have to look at the vans to see what kind of weight they can handle before you go out and buy them. And the Fords didn't have the weight requirement is needed to meet today's standards. I told Metro about this before and they didn't listen until Elliot Davis' 'You Paid for It" saga got them to change. There were times that I had to put up with sheer nonsence in my 16 years of volunteerism at Metro. I did see in a set of slides on Metro's "2009-The Road ahead" page that some top officials will be getting cut. Well, for cramming lots of cash into their pockets and not using the extra sales tax dollars for future expansions, well now those top officals are going to learn their fate, effective this spring. Same with some of the planning and scheduling department's employees. Those employees blew it for everybody!

I emailed the city of St. Louis collector's office due to that Prop M passed in the city so that maybe they can help get Metro funded and get another line started. St. Louis City residents have been waiting over 10 years for the new tax to kick in because the St. Louis County voters turned down the Prop M sales tax. And if the city of St. Louis tax collector responds in favor and acts in my favor, then we might get a few routes saved from the chopping block! So County residents;
RIDE THE BUS!!!

Well, there are some service cutting options that Metro has put into place because the voters choose to vote it down. They are even talking of cutting weekend service. People said that there were to be no service cuts if Prop M failed. Well the truth stands on this website;

Those senior citizens that I wanted to have service available will be short changed because of the voter turning out in a negative way. Those people who voted it down sure have ruined it for people with disabilties! They listened to the lies of the people that were against MetroLink.

A friend of mine was heading home tonight from downtown and we were near BB's Blues, Jazz and Soups...we were stopped at a red light just down Broadway and he made a left turn and I laughed and called him a rebel. The street was a one way so he figured he could turn....we are both wondering now if that was right or not. He figured since it was one way that you could turn left at the light just like you can make a right on red. Do you know if this is legal or not?

OK so on my way to work today I am hit by a driver who clearly does not know what a stop sign means. I am driving in the city, pull up to a stop sign and stop (hint I stop at a stop sign) next thing I have this nonstopping person behind me that plows into me. Here is a little more information, It is raining, hence you probably should not be driving as fast as if it is not. So when I get out, I say, what is up with hitting me, get this the person replies "You stopped", I look up at the stop sign and point and say, "Stop Sign", the next comment to me is "You completely stopped", I then repeated and pointed at the sign and said "Stop Sign". I got the insurance information, I said as we parted, "Please slow down" do you know this person had the nerve to say "You need to get a better attitude", UGH Today's youth, how are you going to give someone attitude you just hit. They will be paying for whole new bumper and paint job! So morale of the story SLOW DOWN!

I am glad that 101.l is going away! They have not played one song with a famous group like the Mormon Tabornacle Choir for the Christmas season. All they play is music by the young artists that really can't even sing! That's one less station with young artists on it. Once the holiday season is over, they will be talking sports. That means GOLF! Score one for the seniors! Hurray!!!

Still, Metro needs to work on extra security. They did state that maybe they may have to buy turnstiles. But then, you have to buy one turnstile for wheelchair bound riders. Some systems has some with overhead bars to keep riders from jumping over the turnstiles without tickets! Plus, they have to have better preventive maintenance records so that the paying customers DO get to ride.

I have wanted to post this for months. I think about it every time I am on the highway. Thank god people can't post on the highway. I for one would be walking to work since no one would insure me with all the accidents. I digress....
If someone is passing you on the right you are in the wrong lane!!!! You should only move to a lane to the left of where you are when you are passing someone. When you are not passing someone then get back over. I am sorry to have to say this but Illinois, you are the most guilty of this. Sorry to break this to you but when you are on 270 you are no longer navigating corn fields. If you cannot keep up get over to the right.
Ok those of you in the far right lane, just because you are slow doesn't mean you get to ignore everyone else who is trying to get on and off the highway. Actually this goes to everyone on the flipping highway, for pete's sake let people merge. I am not talking that d*ouch that waits till the last minute to merge over knowing for ten miles that the lane would end. I am talking people like me who start moving over to the right lane at Big Bend even though we don't get off till Manchester.
I actually did a research essay on what causes traffic jams. If people would stop thinking about themselves, let people in, stop blocking the faster lanes, there would no longer be traffic jams. Yes we would have to drive a bit slower during rush hour (you did see the new speed limit signs?) but in the end would you rather drive 2 on the highway or 40?

We are very close to having the date for the switch to open the western 5 miles of I-64 and close the eastern 5 miles. We hope to be confident in our date to announce it this Friday. The switch will occur in December. Are you ready? Do you know what alternate route you will take for the east half closure? Linda Wilson from MoDOT is online to answer questions for the next hour.

What good does it do to have all these fancy transfer centers and nice parking garages and all this abstract artwork if you dont have any buses or trains going to them?
Metro keep with the business at hand. Buses and trains are where the rubber meets the road, I suggest instead of cutting service that you cut out all the other b.s.

I normally take Hampton Ave to work so when they tore down the overpass I had to detour to Kingshighway. Imagine my surprise the first time I took the new Kingshighway overpass. If this is the best Gateway Constructors can do then we are all in trouble. The new section of Kingshighway has so many dips and bumps it feels like your on a thrill ride at Six Flags. Then you have the problem with multiple lane markings. When you are headed southbound you start in one lane then can't figure out where your lane is or should be because of lanes being moved several times. Cars wind up half in one lane and half in another. I can only hope they are doing a better job on the highway 40/64 reconstruction project. As a Missouri taxpayer I find it ridiculous that the State of Missouri would pay a contractor for such shotty work.

Looking for your thoughts on the defeat of Proposition M. It would have provided more tax money for Metro to expand service for Metrolink and Bus service.
Metro is saying now they'll have to cut back service, going to have to do layoffs...even eliminating routes at night in some places.
I heard a couple of comments on the radio this morning, one person said, "Why should my taxes have to pay for someone to get to work? I pay for my own car"
Another person said, "Lower income people rely on this service. It culd lead to more unemployment and loss of jobs.
What are your thoughts?
