What prevents us from reaching our goals? There are many instances that can be the culprit, if we allow them. One of which is our environment!
I am a published author of two books. Prior to becoming one, I was always spending time with my friends. Suddenly, I decided to pursuit a writing career for myself. The whole time I was busy writing my books, my friends could not understand it took time and dedication, therefore, they left me. It was hard for me at first, but, I continued with my venture.
Now, that I am published, delivered motivational speeches, have my own web site and forum that I built and my story was in the newspapers, my so-called friends have ALL turned against me. I could not find a friend to save my life!
That is when I realized, that some people we place around us, were never meant for us. We keep them there because we grow to love them and want our relationship with them to work.
The reality of it is, you cannot grow with someone who is stuck in neutral. While you are trying to reach your goals, they are content with having no goals. This might cause them to become resentful of you for taking the initiative to become successful, thus, causing them to become insecure with themselves. Why? Because it is at that time, an unconscious standard has just been raised upon them, by your actions to become succesful, that they feel they cannot measure up. You see, resenters will never admit that they are resentful!
Well, the people in my environment has done things to tear me down and to hurt me. It stopped me for awhile, but, I'm still standing! I have tried to salvage the friendships I thought were worth it, but they could not understand when I explained to them, "I cannot afford this drama, as I am somewhat in the public's eye and have done works that put me there."
Why did I say that?! That comment meant to them, I am arrogant and gloating in my success. They do not see that this is a reality for me...that this is my life now.
I now have to be careful of the places I go and the things I do because of this. Considering everything I have earned through hard work and dedication, I do not want to just risk it all over a misdemeanor (if you know what I mean).
My desire was to stay the same person I've always been. ie- spending time with the same friends, doing some of the same things, living in the same neighborhood. However, the people I've mistakenly placed around me will not allow that without repercussion. As a result, I had to totally reconstruct my environment!
Then, I had to adapt to my new surroundings so that I can overcome. When I say overcome in this capacity, I mean get comfortable with my new life and put myself where I should be emotionally, financially, socially, mentally, etc. so that I can keep it moving.
The vicious slander they created about me caused me to lose some of my possible readers and clients in my daycare, which means monies are lost. Much more, I lost people whom I thought were my friends and whom I have grown to love dearly. Can you imagine? It can be devastating!
I took the devastation, betrayal, and everything negative I felt and turned it into positive energy, as I knew it was either going to make me or break me. By the grace of God, I had come too far to just wither like the leaves of Winter. I had to pray for my oppressors, as I continued to build and rebuild.
I will not allow anyone to tear down what has taken me years to build. I had to protect and preserve my fortress. To give in, would be a victory for them. Think of it like this; you are at home relaxing, all of a sudden someone trespasses by breaking into your home. Certainly, you would call the police! Not only that, you would do what is necessary to protect yourself and home until help arrives. If it takes you chasing the perpetrator out, you would. What you would not do is just continue to relax while the trespasser is in your home and just move on! When someone trespasses in your home, it is commensurate to one trespassing in your life, which becomes an adverse environment. REMOVE any adversities from your life, be it, a person, a place, or a thing!
Since I am the administrator of my destiny, I had to keep pushing no matter the circumstance, no matter the odds, no matter the adversity. I had to plant my feet on solid ground and became just like that tree beside the waters. I shall not be moved!
Well, the people around me placed the blame on me by saying, "I should have just ignored it and moved on!" and "I am taking myself through it beause they are just pushing my buttons." Oh the nerve!! I have to deal with it, especially since it has effected me in the ways forementioned. Not to mention, they are not in my shoes to judge what I should or should not do, feel, think! I had to do what was best for me, regardless of who was in agreeance.
Although, they will not agree, I dealt with it in a healthy and clean way, my way...not the way they intended for me. Sure, I got angry and felt hurt, as it took a toll on me. However, my eyes were on getting to where I am trying to be, therefore, I had to thrust myself into my work. Doing this, kept me busy, my mind free of what ailed me at the time, and put me closer to victory. You see, success is the best antidote for adversity.
Finally, I had to motivate myself, by telling myself this; I must be doing something right for everyone to be concerned with what is going on with me. Consequently, I knew to not stray off the right path, not become discouraged, not lose focus, not fold, and to not lose faith!
You see, you cannot keep a person in a ditch without staying in the ditch yourself! The ditch they were trying to keep me in by "pushing my buttons", is the same ditch which kept them from moving forward. As they could not focus on self-improvement for being there in the ditch trying to keep me there. I had to decide if I was going to stay there or pull myself out. I chose to soar above them and their antics, leaving them where they are most comfortable, which is being in neutral.
Which brings me to say..."know that whatever it is you wish to accomplish, you can! Anytime there is an effort for change, there is opposition. You have to overcome any and all obstacles whether you go around them, under them, over them, or through them. Never give up,as nothing comes to a winner if you do not try! Know that you are a winner, if you do not quit the fight! Quitters never win and winners never quit!"
Know your strengths and capitalize on them. Know your weaknesses and make them strong. No one can keep you from your goals, but, you!
If you find yourself friendless at a time when you need one the most...just pray! That is the time you call on God, as a friend to help you through!
I would like to close by sharing a story my Pastor once shared with me:
There were two neighbors one named, Jane Doe and the other Jill Doe. They were rivals! One day, Jane did her laundry and placed her clothes on the line in her backyard to dry. Jill came out and saw Jane's wet clothing, just hanging there blowing in the wind. She uttered to herself, "why does she have those dirty clothes on the line?" Just then, Jill's Pastor was knocking at the front door for a visit. As she answered the door, she displayed on her face a disgruntled look. The Pastor asked, "what's wrong?" Jill replied, "I will do better if my neighbor would take down those dirty clothes!" The Pastor responded, "I saw the clothes, but, they looked crisp and clean to me."
The moral of the story is; sometimes, one might deal with dirt (uncouth feelings, thoughts, actions, other people) for so long, that that is all they see is dirt!
Sometimes, the problem might be your environment, as you can become a product of your environment. Embrace positive change as an improvement and soar above all adversities.
As I am an inspirational/motivational writer, I share my experiences to try to inspire the next person.
I pray that this message finds all who reads it in the best of health and spirit! Thanks and God bless
