While helping my mom organize her yard sale, I found an old bible.

My Great-Great Grandmother gave the bible to my Great Grandmother in 1899.

My Grandfather's oldest sister, Helen, took ownership of the bible when my Great-Grandmother died at a the age of 30 in 1918.

My Great-Grandfather died a few years later and my Grandfather was given the bible by his oldest sister Helen.

He was in World War II and carried this bible with him. There was a photo inside used as a bookmark encased in a thin copper frame. It's been all over the world.

I love old things, especially when I get to find out some family history that I wasn't aware of. I didn't know that my Grandfather was from Piedmont, MO.

My sister told me the census bureau would come to homes and check people's bibles to get a population count.

The other was my grandmas it was dated 1800s it had every name on my great great grandma by some preacher named Whitiker not suer how spell it..My grandmas mother and grandmother both full bread cherokee..My grandma maden name was Rainbow yes just like the ones in the sky..

I remember that and always been proud of that blood line..

I love those pictures! My wife's grandparents lived in Piedmont and both her parents grew up there. What a coincidence.

Please tell me you plan on keeping it and didn't put it in the sale!

You should take it to the Geneology dept of the library that is nearest of where this bible is from..... they would probably be interested in making copies of some of the info and they might have some that will enhance what you have

April,

Every blog you write is very interesting to me! You sound like a smart, fun person.

That Bible is NEAT!! And the story behind it~~even neater. I bought a Bible that's very similar to the one you found at someone's garage sale. It blew my mind that anyone would sell something like that, and for 25 cents too. It's so special.

I hope you keep blogging here even after your internship is over!

I am glad you found this in your mom's stuff. I am sure you are going to hang on to it aren't you?

Census bureau use to come to the home's also. That is why the spelling of last name's are different. As the people didn't really know how to spell their last name and the cenenus taker spelled it the way it sounded. My mom's maiden name and my dad's last name in going through then cenus at the libary is unbeliveable with the different spelling's

How Cool!!!!!

Bibles are sometimes a source of family history, my Great-Grandma, she did not have a birth certificate, but her birthday was written down in a Family Bible, and that's what she had to go by.

That is a real treasure!!!!

Hey April!

Beautiful story! I love finding old things also! I was over at my dad's house the other day and he was showing me some of the things he won playing poker when he was in the war!

He showed me an old clock and a set of beautiful Rosenthal dishes! The photographs blew me away! It just makes you feel like you belong to a bigger story!

Thanks again April and I love the photos of the Bible! Hugs!

Peace, Jana<3
