WOW!  I think this is cool!  Got this from msnbc....

Nickelodeon to go dark to get kids to go playKids’ network will have three hours of dead air time on SaturdayLOS ANGELES - When its television screens go blank on Saturday, the Nickelodeon cable network is advising its viewers not to fiddle with the buttons — but to go outside and play.

The three hours of dead air the children’s network will begin broadcasting at noon (ET/PT) is part of its fourth annual worldwide day of play, an encouragement to kids to get outside and work on getting in shape.

On a SATURDAY NO LESS!!!!  LOL!

Since I watch Spongebob every now and then, I've seen this and think it's a great idea.

Rather kids are going out to play or just switching the channel I dont know. Nick is giving them the idea but it's up to parents to shove them the rest of the way.

I make sure Nickelodeon, Disney, the Cartoon Network are off for at least an hour each day. On most days I make them go outside and play, ride their bikes, scooters or some physical activity. On rainy days we do some sort of hobby like drawing, model building, latch-hook rugs, cross-stitch, and so on. The girls are about old enough to be introduce to power tools (ARRRRRRRRRRRRRugh power! Power is good! Arrugh!) Saturday and Sunday is serious playtime that usually lasts more than three hours. If we have nothing planned the TV is off anyway. My kids get excited going to library, art museum, science center, zoo, or the park. I have found the most important thing is to teach them how to have fun by introducing them to a wide variety of things that they can do.

Your kids shouldn't be sitting in front of the TV all day anyway, this just trains them to sit in front of their computers and blog when they get older lol.

LOL

At least when they're blogging they're THINKING. And are faced with the question of WHY they believe what they believe. Better than the mind numbing boob tube.

So now we have the TV replacing the parents? I think the parents should limit the time their kids spend watching the TV or playing video games.

What next, will the TV tell the kids when to eat and what to eat?

They will just watch a different channel that isn't off air.By noon they should be out and about anyway.I am glad my cartoon days are over.Just that dang kid songs dvd my greatgrandson loves. But we sing along with it and dance. He brings me the remote when he want's to watch it.Of course he is only 21 months old right now.So outside is his thing.

Like i said in my sissy kids blog in the politics section ( shameLESS plug:p ) it seems to me, once again, our media, govt. etc., feel they need to help regulate our kids, even in the most basic sense, like the simplicity of NOT being so lazy and such a bad parent that you cant control your kids enough to get them off the t.v. My mom, IF i wouldve taken a stand, and ignored her to get out of the house and stop watching tv., she probably wouldve taken it out of the house, to who knows where, sacrificed HER t.v. time, to teach me a lesson. But, it seems, parents nowadays, some parents rather, cannot sacrifice anything , are to lazy to parent, and then, cant figure out why their kids are acting a certain way. However, good for nickelodeon, because whether you like it or not, parents HAVE gotten so bad , that they need help from any outlet they can get it from! Even if that makes me want to rip my own you know whats right off. ( chest hair people , chest hair)

My husband and I have been married for 14 years, and have 3 boys. I work part time as a receptionist for a Chiropractor, and I have to say, I LOVE MY JOB! On my days off, I love hanging out at the river, and my new hobby fishing. I also sew on the side, odd jobs and such. I'm hoping to get back into crafting now that the kids are back in school.
