I know I'm probably gonna catch a lot of flack on this, but I don't understand all the fighting over cell phone useage. Do I think that cell phones hinder the attention paid on the road? Yes for some. Is it going to stop the cops from being on their's too, or is it just us? Also, if using the cell phone is causing hazards, what about the women putting on their make-up or the guys shaving while driving? That shouldn't be any more allowed than cell phones. I mean, if you want complete attention on the roads, then stop all this with tickets too. Switching radio stations, eating, or changing cds can occupy your attention the same as cell phones. I've heard nothing on this activity. A lot of people have cell #s programmed in their phone and dial with one touch. Holding that phone with your shoulder or even with your hand is no more a hindrance than holding that cup of coffee or soda and using one hand to drive. Do I agree with texting while driving? ABSOLUETLY NOT! There are those out there that should not even have a radio at all for distraction. How many of you out there can change a station or put in another cd and have complete attention to the road?........That's what I thought. OK, hit me!! LOL!

I totally agree with you USFemail. How about we just ban idiots!

I believe that cell phones either need to be banned totally while the keys are in the ignition or just leave the dilemma alone. The worst offenders are law enforcement personnel.

Using a headset still keeps your attention on the conversation not the road. To say that holding that cell phone to your ear while driving is worse than driving drunk is ludicrous!

Speedy I agree with you. Drunk drivers are a heck of a lot more dangerous than people talking on the cell phone. Occasionally I talk on my phone when I am driving and my dad is forever getting on to me about it. I am careful when I talk on the phone. Before I upgraded my phone I did have a ear piece to use when I was driving but now I don't have anything because I haven't decided on what I want yet. I guess we shall see what happens on this issue.
LCF- I love your idea too!

Everytime, I have to blow my horn at an idiot in rage, they on a cell phone, driving to slow, lane drifting, sitting at light, just plain not paying attention. It is a real problem, if it causees accidents I don't know but it ticks me off. I even pull beside them and tell'em to get of the phone.

The problem is driving is already dangerous enough and people who willing to put added risk to an already dangerous situation need to be dealt with. I just scolded my wife, she sent me a text message just mintues after leaving me at work, I know she had to be driving to do it. Putting herself and others at risk.

Auto Insurance is already costly enough, we giving them a reason to charge us more.

I think the law is a good idea. Wish they were doing it in Illinois too. I have had so many soccer moms almost running me off the road it's sick. I'll just add this. These people don't know that if they hit me I'm getting out of my car and kicking their butt. I'm tired of these idiots on the road not paying attention causing my insurance to go up.

I'm just saying that there are way more things that cause people to lose their attention on the road.

I say let the cops be on the phone; less tickets they can issue.

I agree USFe-mail however what about truckdrivers? I have 2 of them in my family, they have to use their cb's to get instructions from dispatch, what about ambulance, EMT, police... a cell phone is no different than crabbing for your cb, or for the police to be on a laptop,(seen that before) they can't ban it all, we'd all look pretty stupid sitting on the shoulder talking on a cell phone or cb, there would be no one on the highway driving, there would be more confusion than you have ever seen. It is an attorney's idea maybe he represented someone in a particular case that was at fault, I do not think talking on a cell phone impairs someones driving ability as alcohol as he was comparing it to, shoot my husband and my son can eat drink talk on a cell phone and drive all at one time, that's called multi tasking... lol I thing they should be more concerned about girls putting on makeup, and people reading books while driving. I can't see how they could pass a law like this, just like smoking... we are becoming a society that has NOOOOO rights.

I thought driving while distracted was already against the law. I don't see why we need more laws when we could take care of the problem by enforcing the laws already in place. Of course, some politician will take this up as a holy crusade "for the CHILDREN" to make it look like they're actually doing something.
Don't get me wrong... idiots with cell phones DO drive me crazy. I just don't like more laws.

I just wonder if any of those politicians have children??? I agree with you "P" Has any of them drove with children in the back seat, I can drive and still smack at one of the kids and still stay on the road, how about that!!! I think alot of this is throwing their weight around, my parents didn't wear seat belts, we didn't have cell phones and I stood in the back seat on the hump...lol... I think that there are so many excusses in todays world they need to really pay attention to what is really at hand. You know people drank and drove in the 60's too. They talked to other people in their vehicles and took care of their children in the car too. What is this all really about anyway?

Momma..I was going to say the same thing.. Children are a distraction in a vehicle. Are they going to tell us we cannot take our children with us anymore too? Wait, the Dr.'s quit making house calls so they HAVE to come with!
