Of course once again the rain split around us here in Franklin County!  Jefferson County always gets it and there in the city they're getting soaked. The sun is shining here!  What the heck is the deal??  I see on the weather map right now that there is more coming...probably split right around us again.  I'm gonna have to water my garden.  Everything around here is crisp.

Is there such a thing as a rain repeller ? JustWonderin is really wonderin'! My raindance this morning obviously didn't work. To quote another blog, thinking about writing a song called Splittin' and Dryin'Out. Glenn can do the music and I'll write some scathing lyrics! LOL

Finished reading the post and the reply, then discovered it had started to rain in Collinsville. Just had the most rain in my yard that I've seen for many weeks. Thanks. I think the griping has finally done us some good. Hope you guys got some too. Keeping up hope for all of us in the area for tonight.

I don't know what radar you watch, but Jefferson County barly got anything but a quick shower, We have not had a good soaking rain in weeks and weeks and weeks. Trust me it is just as dry as in Franklin County!

i know what you mean, i live in waterloo ill and this summer it would do that to us too, we were very very dry, farmers took a big hit, so i know exactly what you are talking about, the rain would just about reach waterloo and then split and go around us, we did get and inch yesterday, thank God.

Note this storm, again as has happend about six or seven times now just this month, broke up when it hit the St. Louis metro area, then reformed as it drifted northeast.

In fact, the radar shown at 9PM last night, showing the leading edge of the rain associated with the warm front preceding the storms, showed a distinct line of showers, only to literally "disapper" over the metro area, then magically "reappear" as they crossed into Illinois.

Where is Dr. Gray to explain this when we need him? (See Glenn Z's blog regarding Australia and the counterpoint to Gore's theory of global warming.)

Am I suggesting this has something to do with global warming? No.

But I am suggesting, as I have read from other distiguished scientists, that major metro areas with heavy petroleum and chemical industries do witness this phenomenon quite often, and it is currently unexplained. It is NOT the heat island effect associated with major cities, because many cities do NOT see this often (i.e. KC).

But I witness this with my own eyes time and time again living here, and there has to be some reason our area has such an impact on dissolving storms and rain (sometimes it is reverse, too - we get a little "hole" of rain or storms just over us, that dissipates as it moves away).

Glenn - do you think Dr. Gray could explain this to us? LOL ;=)

I was near Fort Smith, Arkansas last weekend and the week before they had received over 7 inches of rain in one day. Where I was they had gotten 6 inches the same day and the gravel roads were washed out plus the tree farms that had just been harvested were eroded messes. Mark Twain said that everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it. There are ways to adversely affect the weather and we are doing something about it every day.

Monday - Oct 22nd - 1:10PM...

Doughnut hole currently IN EFFECT!

(Note the precip dissolve just when it reaches the metro area, then reappear on the other side of the river, north of St. Louis.)

They even turned up the Dopplar sensitivity the last few samples to bring out the rain - but, alas, there is none really!

What gives, I wonder? Hmmmm?

Perhaps we need that genius Dr. Gray to tell us!
