After the VA Tech shootings I have read qutie a few blogs where people are so willing to give up their 2nd amendment rights. all for what? safety?

So many are all willing to use their 1st amendment rights to try to take away 2nd amendment rights, If you are sucsessful in this do you think you will have the 1st amendment rights very much longer???

you think this great nation would even be here with out gun owners? if it were not for regular guys that had guns in their homes, ready to answer the call, this nation would not have even got started. These brave men willing to give their lives were called the Minute Men.

You think we will Never have the need for that again? it could happen. Not likely, but other countries know we have a armed populace, besides our standing Army,Navy,Air Force, and Marines. That my friends is a huge deterrent! that make them think twice.

Same thing with criminals, if they think that someone might have a gun they think twice before doing the crime.

Please Stop giving up your and my rights!!!!!

Some of you may have viewed and or commented on my blog on the NRA and guns.

Now later in the day after writing that we learn of the VA tech shootings.

First let me say that my thoughts and prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones today.

Second if we want to prevent things like this happening again we have to think about the problem and take the emotion out of it.

getting emotional about "if there were no guns this would not have happened " Does nothing to slove the problem. The guns used in this crime were 9mm handguns, not "assault weapons" so the clinton gun ban would not have made a hill of beans difference in this case.

then you have the shooter, he was a student here from china, on a student visa......hmmm looks like he could not have bought the guns legally. so he was already a criminal before he ever pulled the trigger the first time.

So all the gun laws we have did nothing to stop this horrible crime. what is the answer????

I dont think all the students being armed would be a good idea, besides most college aged kids are not 21 years old so therefore would not be allowed to legally own a handgun anyway.

Maybe having more armed security on the campus would have put a end to this sooner. We dont know for sure what would have prevented this awful act.

But one thing I do know for sure, the guns did not cause the crime. they did not shoot them selfs. SO taking guns away from people that legally own them wont do anything to stop things like this from happeing.

Hello all, After commenting on few others blogs here about the NRA and weapons, I felt I needed to speak out about a few things here.

1st Fully Automatic weapons are banned Unless you have a federal class three permit. these are very expensive and very hard to get.

Fully auto weapons have been Banned since The National Firearms Act of 1934!!!!

Semi automatic firearms are just that, they will fire a round each time you pull the trigger.

Pump action is where you need to pump the action each time you fire a round to chamber the next round.

To legally buy firearms you must have a background check done, most states have a instant background check. but some states may also have a waiting period.

for example. I live in IL, if I want to go buy a shotgun. I will go to the gun shop pick out what I want, have a background check done, also have my IL firearm owner ID card checked, pay for the gun then have to wait three days before picking up the shotgun.

In Missouri, they have instant background check, pay for the shotgun, walk out with shotgun.

I have done both. and guess what. I did not use these guns in a crime.

Criminals will not go through any kind of background check to get a gun. they will steal one, or buy it off the black market.Criminals do not want any kind of record showing they bought a gun.

I have to have a state issued photo ID showing that I can legally own a firearm, I also have to show this ID to buy any ammo in the state of IL. None of this has cut down crime in the state of IL. Why because any one that  is going to commit a crime with a gun is not going to want the state to know who they are, and where they live,etc.

So let me ask you this.....what good does it do to put all these regulations on lawful citizens??? It has ZERO effect on crime.

Then we have the Anti gun crowd. they want to take away my guns. They want to take away my 2nd amendment rights, and they use their first amendenment rights to try to take away my rights. Seems to me that you cannot pick and choose what parts of the U.S. Constitution you want to support and what parts you dont want to support.

and for the anti gun crowd, if you get my 2nd amendment rights taken away, who will protect your 1st amendment rights? because if you show the Govt that rights can just be taken away, they will come after your rights too.

Ok I have been on my soapbox long enough.

Last Saturday St. Patrick's Day I was staying in a downtown Hotel for a Union convention.

anyway Parked my car at around 6pm Saturday night, and when I checked out of the Hotel Sunday morning......My Car was gone!

The Police acted very unconcerned about the whole thing. Here it is almost a week later, and I am still driving a rental car. Have not heard a peep from the St.Louis police dept about my car. I really don't expect it to be found, if it is found I am sure that it wont be worth anything anymore. It just burns me up, I only had three payments left and the car would have been Mine, and no more payments! I could have save a lot of money putting away what my car payment was every month. Now I have to go out and take another payment on,So much for the idea of saving that money. While some thief enjoys the fruits of my labor. I took good care of that car, No dents, excellent paint job. interior was in great shape. I tried to keep the car in great shape so I could have it a long time. So much for that Idea.

Well car thief if you read this enjoy the car, I hope the brakes go out while you are driving it and you smash into a brick wall!
