At the hardware store that is!  I'm sure many of you did.  I went to the local hardware store to buy a 12 lb bottle of ice melt and it was over 9 dollars. I heard many grunts and comments about how ridiculous it was to have to pay that much.  I also bought some windshield washer/deicer for almost 6 dollars.  By the time I was through I spent over 30 dollars on a one day snowstorm.  This is definitely a time to own a hardware store.

What did you have to buy today and how much did you spend?

I always stock up on all my winter needs such as ice melt, deicer and if needed ice scrapers in the fall when they first come out. This way I can sit back and laugh when Fox 2 shows the rushes at the stores when the forecast calls for ice and/or snow lol.

My God, that is grand theft alright. I picked up some dog food and a 25# bag of salt/ ice melt mix and a bottle of washer fluid, and worse of all on the wallet, filled the gas tank. Geez... I need to earn more money, then move to a warmer climate

They are raking us over the coals because it's not to be found anywhere.... The few that still have it left are getting any amount that they want for it........

You can buy fertilizer at the feed mill a lot cheaper and it works about the same..... If you have any left in the spring then you can always put it on your grass......

Let's just go to Mexico and live the winter out on a beach somewhere....

I bought mine in the beginning of the season so I didn't have to get any at all.

That's awful, Monica! I didn't have to buy anything because I refuse to go out and drive in snow!

We haven't had ice melt or salt at all this winter. Everytime I went somewhere to prepare for the weather ahead of time they were out. I draw the line at taking Joey into ANY hardware store, so we just do without!

Nothing, I stayed home...lol
Its one of those things you realy need to buy at the end of the season when they drop the price to liquidate it. Its like buying wrapping paper after christmas for next christmas. When ever a retailer know there is a demand they will raise the price because they think they have you at a dissatvantage. Price gauging.....

Hey michelle, if you realy want to do that its do able. I had the same idea a few years back before planting roots elswhere. From my research I found you can own a acre of beachfront property, build a 10" thick solid cement mansion covered in stucko for that Mediteranian look. 2 inch thick solid plank doors and window shutters, Wraought iron reinforced screens. Stone or clay tile floors, a ten foot tall solid cement or stone wall surounding the property. You can buy someone elses for $500,000 or build it for $250-$300,000. Thats the average new home price on a 1/8 acre in St. Louis. You save big on taxes! With the internet you can do buisiness globaly from any location. Thats why I love the internet, it made the world so small...

I've only recently discovered what 95% of the folks on these blogs have known about for some time now, lol, in that the Internet offers a virtually unlimited array of opportunities for personal and career success. It is incredible how agile you can be! If you're creative, net-savvy, self employed and in an industry that affords you flexibility, or work in a field that allows you time to have a business on the side, the Internet gives you the opportunity to live anywhere in the world! My sister is a perfect example: She's a professional videographer/ photojournalist, passionate about rain forests. Last year sold her home and property in Louisville and picked up a 10-month work visa for Costa Rica and that is her new home! She's inspired me in more ways than one. Now I am planning the same thing for next summer, arranging a work visa for 4 months in Ireland, working in the golf/spa market and staying/living in a castle! Does it get any better?! In addition to that, you can buy into a "timeshare" -- I own a timeshare in Branson, and as popular as that place has become, I can exchange those 2 weeks in August of every year, for 2 weeks at any resort anywhere in the world. The only cost is up-front when you buy the timeshare -- and many times you can get these on a foreclosure for less than the cost of a single vacation -- $2,500 to $4,000. After that, you pay only a few hundred dollars per year and when it comes to your 2 week vacation, all you pay for is your travel, etc. the 2 weeks at the resort is covered. There are thousands of resorts to choose from! So your dream is very,

Sorry...there I go again with my diarhea of the mouth disease...um, where was I, oh yes, so Michelle, your dream is very, very doable girl! But not meaning to shoot down what Stephan is saying, of course -- and along those lines, even though $300K is a chunk of change [for me anyway], if you can have a second home in paradise for "only that amount" that seems like one hell of a deal, far better than a timeshare because you could show up anytime, as well as sub-lease it for income. That's a smart idea, Stephan. Are you in real estate?

Not specificaly I just seek out a oportunity, a void or a loop hole and use it. I have to be as flexible and open minded as the demand. I have done a couple of bank repo properties, I live in one now. I also got a 3 acre non developed estate (house burned down) bank repo in an estate subdivision in Hawaii (paid in full). The sale of my st. louis home(already paid in full) will fund my semi-retirment estate with mini organic farm. Just in time for my daughter to go to Hawaii state colledge. But I am here 4 more years all the while establishing buisness contacts and good friends. Still have family here.

Diva, I always plan ahead and get my winter supplies when they are on sale in the spring. Since I am now low on salt and windshield washer/deicer I will be in the market later this month to refresh my stock for next winter.

i think there is a law in florida about price increases during bad weather. i went to big lumber place in miami and asked them the question about this and they said that during or after bad weather there they cannot raise prices more than it sold before the huricane hit.

Aside from my work at Fox 2, I am also the host of The Health & Fitness show on KMOX Sundays from 1-3pm. I have been the Head Fitness Trainer at Riverchase of Fenton for almost 9 years. I also write a health article for Streetscape Magazine in St. Charles. As for my personal hobbies, some of my greatest passions in life all relate to music. I have been singing and dancing since I was 3. I have also been an athlete since I was a kid, excelling in the sports of soccer, softball and basketball. I am extremely close to my family and miss my father daily. We lost him September 12th 1995. He and my mom would dance and you would think it was poetry in motion. My mother is one of my dearest friends, I have two brothers and a sister, all of whom are older. I am blessed to have many friends and acquaintances. I also love animals and have a beautiful dog named Kyra, who just turned 8 in September. I also adopted Kailei from the Humane Society of Monroe County in May of 2007, she is an amazing puppy. She is being trained by Casey and Shelly Ray with Team Dog St. Louis. I swear they are just like Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer. They even have their own little pack :-). Give me my family, friends, a great man that I fall in love with, pets, music, sports, a nice restaurant, a good martini and a sharp sports car and I could live forever! :-) LOL. Thanks for reading.
