Does it really matter if we hear more bad news more often during the day?  I remember when Fox 2 first came out with The Edge at 10pm claiming it wouldn’t be the same old newscast – well, guess what…

Fox 2’s news at 9pm is probably the most watched newscast since a lot of people are trying to get to bed by 10pm.  Ok, that’s how it is at our home.  When it comes to getting the news, I could care less how the reporter/anchor looks rather I’d like to get the breaking news quicker and accurately.

So, the item that “Two St. Louis stations combine news” means nothing to me.  I guess it’s sort of like being the first (Channel 5) to broadcast in High Definition.  You still have to get the new correct … first.

Fox 2 – just keep doing what you are doing and you’ll be fine.   JMO

Here’s the article in the Belleville News Democrat today.

2 St. Louis stations combine news The Associated Press

 ST. LOUIS --

Two St. Louis television stations plan to combine their newsrooms and share news services.

The agreement between the Fox affiliate, KTVI-TV, and KPLR-TV, which is part of the CW network, was announced Tuesday by the parent companies. Local TV Holdings LLC owns KTVI; Tribune Co. owns KPLR.

Under the agreement, KTVI will move to KPLR's offices. The combined newsroom will produce staggered news for nine hours a day.

KTVI General Manager Spencer Koch says viewers want local news programs throughout the day, not just morning, early evening and at night.

The parent companies also announced a local marketing agreement for their TV stations in Denver, Fox affiliate KDVR and CW affiliate KWGN. Both stations will operate out of the KDVR studios.

Since any acts of STUPIDITY (rudeness) are not legally a misdemeanor yet - I will DELETE any rude remarks from experienced jerks/trolls. I do HAVE the right to discriminate!

I was wondering the same thing. We actually watch Ch 5 at 10pm because it covers more. If possible yeah we watch the news at 9pm. I didn't even know Ch 11 still had news so wow to that. As for how they look its always nice seeing a pretty face.

speedy - i was trying to figure this merger out myself. so does that mean no more fox news? will they be a new station altogether? We enjoy the 9pm news too and unlike you - we then stay up to watch adult appropriate things after the kids have finally settled down and aren't awake to sneak in and watch anything they aren't supposed to. We don't keep on the fox at 10 because it is just a 'rehash' of the 9pm ... nothing new to see at that point but watch fox every night - our other station would be KSDK channel 5 - love their reporters!

We usually watch KSDK too. I could care less about the HDTV I just want correct news. Some of the faces on Fox 2 are a bit outdated and I do like a pretty face. I looked over the schedule and did find that Ch 11 does have news.

What's going on Kim - haven't seen you on for a long time. The merger doesn't make fiscal sense at all unless they do the normal reduction of staff.

And what are those adult appropriate things you watch? Huh? LOL - yeah give me TMI! If I stay up after the 9pm news I'll usually watch Nancy Grace and/or TruTV - real excitement just 8 - 12 years old.

Biker: I agree on the HDTV. When Channel 5 made that claim to be the first to have it - I wondered why waste the money. At some point in time it really will be standard and I don't think too many of us cared.

Keep the comments coming in!

There are already too many hours per day devoted to news. Seems all the stations have to stretch just to find things to report on. Most things do no impact a broad variety of people. When I watch news, I watch KTVI or FOXNEWS. But I get my headlines from the net, then choose if the story has personal interest to me. I may watch 30 minutes of news on TV weekly.

I personally could care less how old or ugly the face is , what's coming out of the mouth?
I want to know what's happening and how it's relevant with as little bias as the media can present.
FOX does a great job at that and in doing so has a loyal patron in me.

I would say it is safe to assume that most of us have watched Fox 2 news on occasion or most of the time.

I guess the main point is - would a 9am newscast be good, too much, average or what? Even if I work from home I really don't want to be watching local news all day since it doesn't change that much.

Fox 2 does a great job in the early hours and their 9pm newscast. I would really like to see more breaking news - so break out those police scanners!

Ok Speedo just saw the breaking news. Did you get a chance to see that plane land in Chesterfield? It was breaking news live with a small aircraft landing without it's landing gear. It did a belly landing and looked smooth. There ya go.

Yep, saw it too - great stuff and Fox 2 had the exclusive or at least the only live shot. I was switching back and forth checking to see if the others had it and they didn't.

It appeared that the landing gear was stuck and they flew around emptying out the tank. I believe someone even did a negative blog on this incident stating we might see people die?

Yes, great job on the coverage in Chesterfield!

I am me. I've been blogging since the term existed but began here in March 2007. I am completing my Doctorate of CS (Common Sense). I like a harsh debate but when ego gets involved we all tend (except ego-tripper) to shy away. I am a firm believer that STUPIDITY should be a misdemeanor.
