Sheriff Glenn Boyer has found a unique way to reach the residents of Jefferson County. It's not by hitting the streets, but by hitting the airwaves. The Sheriff's report not only informs, but entertains the listeners as well. Just as he does every week on his radio show, Boyer speaks about a variety of topics in this week's Sound Off report.  What do you think of Sheriff Boyer? Do you like his idea of reaching those in his jurisdiction over the radio? Leave your comments here.

I THINK THAT SHERIFF SHOULD HAVE DEPUTIES PATROL WEST ELM ESTATES OFF THE WEST OUTER RD. WE ARE GETTING A LOT OF CAR WINDOWS BROKEN, MINE FOR ONE. WE NEVER SEE A SHERIFF CAR IN THE AREA THEY MUST BE SLEEPING

It sounds like a way to connect to the community as a whole that does not cost a bunch of money. But with way more important topics at hand this really does not seem important tonight. Unless he is making his police department money by doing this then with the way things are, he is wasting his time. The police departments are going to have a hard time getting money in the near future. With the gas prices going up, people are driving less and driving slower. This means less people getting speeding tickets. With less tickets, these communities are going to see less money in already strapped budgets. The next thing they need is for the non-smokers to get their way and follow IL and ban smoking. Us smokers help with our tax dollars.

Less Speeding Tickets!!! Oh no, Byrnesmill is in a heap of trouble. That is almost their only source of income.

It's AM radio..... I could not even tell you what stations are on AM..... I think Frank Opinion is on there somewhere but I never listen to AM any more...... I think KXOK with Johnny Rabbitt was the last thing I listened to .......

So I doubt that he is reaching that many in Jefferson County...

At least he is making an effort.

The people who are truly concerned about their community will make the effort to listen. If someone cannot find the station on the radio dial, how educated and valid can their opinion be? I respect the fact that the sheriff is willing to be accountable to the citizens and respect their concerns. Some people will find anything to complain about.

Sound like a good idea, but he would reach more residents by setting up a picnet table on Wal-Mart parking lot.The Radio stations do it all the time..

definitely keeps him in touch with the people he's supposed to be protecting. may even allow him to beef up the force needed for the areas more hit cause not everyone will call 911 for smaller offenses but I am certain that they will call anonymous to a radio station.

Byrnesmill police, sure do watch for speeders. Which I actually don't have a problem with, since if it saves one life, its worth it.
I actually am very surprised that people do complain about a police dept that make you obey the law. I would think they would complain about , the other way around.

Glenn Boyer is all show, He has turned the department into a money making bussiness. Not only do they still do Radar, they have 6to8 deputies aleays looking to bust low level drug dealers, and other low level crimes just to get more revenue for the county. New police cars, another new jail, ect. Now all of this would be fine and dandy if they found out what happened to Amanda Jones, or solved a couple of the other big crimes. It's all about the revenue, not about the protect and serve the citizens.

Low level drug dealers?? Didn't know there was such a thing. I would assume what you call low level, never turn into the big dealers. The ones that try to sell to your kids, my kids, sister, brothers, friends. Get those low level drug deals and stop them, before they get to be the big drug dealer. I have heard horror stories since we moved to house springs (byrnesmill) about the amount of drug dealer in the are. I hope they can get rid of them ALL
